It doesn't work your chest at all.. All you need for chest imo is flat bp, incline bp, leaning forward dips and some sort of fly or cable fly to finish off. Switch the presses up between db's and bb too.
    Hai guise.

Harvs, just wondering... Why do flat bench at all?

It's more of an ego movement so why not just do decline and incline which works the top and bottom of the chest?

IMO, chest exercises should include flat, incline, dips, flyes.

Page 324..."The bench press is a fundamental compound exercise for the upper body. It produces growth, strength, and muscle density, not only for the chest muscles but for the front deltoids and triceps as well."

Also I can look at myself (I am going to start incline bench press next week, and am only currently doing flat bench press and flys) I am a little more developed in my lower pecs than my upper pecs, but I still see growth in both areas.

i use flat bp for power/strength with low rep ranges. When i want to give the chest more shape, i switch to dumbells and decline bench.

A while ago i had this e-book that Pete Scisco wrote. He said they tested the "muscular output" for liek 10+ exercises used in the gym for chest. The results were Flat bb, decline bb, and cable crossovers.

Some people might add to put incline there but for me, it works my shoulders more and not enough for my chest. just my 2 cents

Heres the reason why I do flat DB press. My lower pecs are alot bigger than my upper, so to do decline would just keep it uneven.

That exercise is known as a military press and works mainly the shoulders. You press the barbell overhead with NO LEG MOVEMENT (strict form)!

The military press hits (very slightly), the upper part of the chest, but not as much as flat or incline bench would.

Flat bench is a compound movement, meaning that it requires movement of 2+ joints so it works loads of different muscles (stabilizers aswell!) and it is a must to include flat bench in your chest routine. I'd recommend always doing flat bench, but switching up DBs and BB every so often!!

Actually the bench press is a great CNS stimulator for sprinters.
