can u use a lat pulldown bar to do chin ups if u just leave it static and locked?

If you really had to, I'd ask someone to hold the bar steady while you do your chin-ups to avoid any injury.

There has to be a beam or 2x4 or 2x8 hanging in your house somewhere man...look around in the basement. I did pullups when I was younger on a 2x4 that I hammered into some 2x8's on the ceiling downstairs.
But yeah you can do them from anything that hangs.

And I know you weren't asking this, but pullups are way more effective than pulldowns.

Lat pulldowns can be good: I can't do weighted pullups, as my left shoulder acts up something crazy, so pulldowns are pretty much the best option I have for working on back width...
but if you can do pullups, do 'em.The strongest weak guy you'll ever meet.

just do lat pulldowns....not pullups on the pulldown machine :S
