Don't wanna talk about it. Going to try again after in-laws and husband leave in a few weeks (which is enough to drive you to drink too, and I have not drank in 20 years). I think I put too much pressure on myself with trying to lose few dozen tons I have, learning to lift weights (tried to knock my head off last week), getting house and yard ready for hubby and in-laws, school for son, and quit smoking. Working on getting priorities straight. Unfortunately, I am an all or nothing type person.
But I see you are doing wonderful and I am really impressed. Keep it up!!!

Way to go, people!!
I know how hard it is, but it's worth it. I quit almost 10 years ago and couldn't be happier. And the money saved is unbelieveable. Enough to take a family of 4 on a 2 week out of state fishing trip the first year.
Keep up the hard work!

CONGRATS to you all!! I quit several times over my smoking years - the last time was about 3 years ago but that was only a short start up from whatever stressful situation.
I found that after upping my fitness level and focusing on health - smoking never enters my mind any more...besides playing hockey is hard enough with 45 year old lungs that don't smoke! LOL!
now when I get stressed I hit the weights or do cardio!
Best of luck to you all!!!

Still going and trying to cut back, but have been a little carefree lately and just enjoying things right now. Have by the end of this year as my goal. I know it seems far away, but it has not hindered me in any way, YET. But growing tired of the way I smell sometimes. I really notice when i am in a non-smoking environment.
Congrats to all of you who have quit and keep it up. I feel like I am not serious enough.

I gave up nearly 20 years ago. I made a 100 point list (which I've still got) why I should give up, it included health, hygiene and financial reasons. The odd thing is that I never really looked at the list after I gave up, but just putting it together made me determined to quit.
I think if you're into keep fit, not smoking should be part of the process.

I know this feeling, try to think small. Three days.If you can make it that far it gets much easier.Everyones different but for most people that's the turning point.Drink as much water as you can it will help flush out the toxins.I also found my heavy bag to be a great asset during this time.
I quit 14 years ago and I still remeber how hard it was.Good luck to everyone.

Funny you should mention the heavy bag. Last night, my 9 year-old son was asking why I was chewing so much gum when I never shew gum. I explained that I was trying to stop smoking and needed to do something with my hands and mouth while breaking the habit. He suggested we go to the garage and punch the heavy bag. We were in there about 45 minutes taking turns on the bag and had a good time. The relief lasted at least an extra 10 minutes beyond that, then I wanted a cigarette again.

The stomach issues come and go. However they lessen after the first wk.
Poor sleep quality was an issue for me. Once she gets free of the cigs for three or four wks will power will be enough-good luck to her and all that have/are quitting

I ate before taking each dose which seemed to help and used drank a big glass of water. As each day went by the stomachace became less and shorter in duration as my body adjusted to Chantix.

By the way, one thing I am doing to help with the cravings (oral fixation) is eating a lot of mints. Bad thing is that these all have sugar in 'em. There goes the diet if I keep eating these as fast as I am. Any other alternatives?

Yeah, i'm hooked on jolly ranchers, probably have 3-4 per day. I'm sure in time, that will go away also, and i'm quite sure it's better than smoking.
Stay strong!

All you quitters, keep up the good work.
I quit smoking March 8th 2003. 2 month's later I took up lifting and cardio to lose the 20 lbs that I gained after quitting. I don't regret or miss smoking one bit.
Things that helped me quit the last time:
Zantac helped but after 2 weeks I was getting wiffty. I then switched to taking a herb called St. John's Wort. (Don't use this if you are taking any anti-deprresants.) This helped take the edge off without effecting me mentally. I also used cinnamon toothpicks to get an oral fix. Lifting and walking for miles helped greatly.
Don't ever think you can just have a couple smokes now and then. That doesn't work for those who have had the addiction. You will be hooked before you know it. I know, I started up once after a 10 year quit. I have smoked off and on for 1/2 of my life. What a waste that was. Never again. I am healthy now and plan to stay that way.

Please expand on your question. I smoked for 20 years so yeah, there was something missing... but each day I wake up and realize I didn't smoke yesterday and that just keeps happening. The urges, while they are still there, just get easier to manage.

I quit May 19, 2007...cold turkey after 18 yrs...one day at a time!
I too had/HAVE an oral fixation with quitting; I chew sugarless gum constantly! I'm in Afghanistan right now so I have the Mrs. send it to me by the case so I don't run out...LOL.
The best way I found to combat the urge to give in to the darn things was physical activity. If I wanted one, I would drop and knock out as many push-ups as I could or start doing jumping jacks; whatever the situation would permit to include concentrating on deep breathing.
Most of my soldiers think that I'm nuts to be quitting that "one thing that we live for" while in a combat zone but honestly I feel SO much better after stopping and the energy levels that I had the first couple of months were thru the roof. There were times I felt like I could pick up one of our trucks (though I didn't try) or like I was going to explode; totally just bouncing off walls! It's funny now cause so many of the men wish they could do it now and some try, but they always act shocked when they ask me how long and I tell them it's been another month. I think I've turned into one of those "anti-smoker" recovering smokers though; everytime I get around them I have to move cause it seems like the smoke suffocates me. I realize that some of that must just be in my head but I like it because it makes me feel like this is the last time I will ever have to quit again.
The true test is with that first drink after I'm back home. Thank God my wife doesn't smoke!
Congratulations to ALL of those quitting, trying and succeeding!
HOOAH!
