Is 100g of nuts too much?

    Hey all,

I've started eating 100g of cashew nuts a day. They are roasted salted nuts, and have the following nutiritional benefits:

    Per 100g:

    Calories: 655
    Protein:30
    Fat: 51
    Carbs: 19

It's good to have such a huge amount of calories as it helps bulk up my diet a bit, also the protein amount is great too.

    Any thoughts?

looks like it fits in ur macros.. go for unsalted if u want.. dont know how much sodium u consume or if you really care about it.. but nothing wrong with that at all

make sure u get other fats from peanut butter, oil's etc etc.. 51g is not enough for a 180lb person

Excellent. Thanks for the advice. I've started a new diet, aiming to eat roughly about 3000-3200 calories a day. Yesterday for example I had:

    calories: 3108
    protein: 295
    fat: 88.95
    carbs: 267.9

Does that look about right? I'm aiming to put on muscle and size, but also become generally fitter (for running and cardiovascular too), and stronger.

Not really sure of what I specifically wanted to know, but just wondered if it was OK to eat that many nuts. 655 is a lot of calories to get from one food source, just wasn't sure if that was bad.

eh i dont think u need the 300g of protein.. i would bump that down and get around i would say 275max and keep the carbs around 300 and fats about 90-95.. looks good but a lil too much protein maybe..

not bad man.. record ur results for the week and check the scale and let us know how things are going

That was a bit of a one-off to be honest. I got 66g of protein from a single piece of beef steak!!!

Most other days I'm getting about 245g of protein.

    Thumbs up Diet

Diet looks good, I agree that you might want to add some more fat, against popular belief it actually helps keep you slim. Protein looks good; how has it been working for you so far?

That's a lot of omega-6! How much fish/fish oil or omega-3's do you consume?

Try taking at least 4 grams of quality fish oil a day

Its the #1 supplement we should all take. There are literally hundreds of benefits found so far for Omega 3's.

Eat walnuts if you can stand them. Loads of Omega-3's. 100g of walnuts would be around the same amount of calories and such, but would offer like 8 grams (not mg) of Omega-3s. Walnuts are my fav source of O3.

    Thanks.

I've been thinking about the protein. I thought I heard it was 1-2g of protein per lb of body weight. Seeing as I weight roughly 170-180lbs, then it would be about right having 200 - that would obviously the top of the scale. As I said I don't normally have that amount every day.

As for how the diet has been going, not too bad. I'm 3 days into it, it's always been a hard thing for me to stick too. I don't really eat too much junk, only chocolate a couple of times a week, and maybe beer every few weeks, but nothing major.

I've been lifting on and off for ages, but never really stuck hugely to it. I have a 3 day split happening.

IF you want to read what my aim is look here:

    http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...3&goto=newpost

    Thanks everyone.

Oh, and as for walnuts - I don't mind them, I'll check them out. I need to get a few more eggs in my diet, so will have a few boiled ones over the next few days. See how it goes.
