help with ankles

About a year ago I was playing racquetball with running shoes on (stupid I know) and I sprained my ankle. I actually ended up getting talked into going to the ER because it blew up like a balloon and I couldnt put any pressure on it. It ended up being a 3rd degree sprain. then 3 weeks later I did the same thing to the other ankle maybe because I was overcompensating for the first sprain. anyway it has been about 10 months now and my ankles still are sore in the morning and they are stiff throughout the day. I am going snowboarding in CO in 2 months and I was wondering what the best exercises/stretches would be to strengthen my joints and feet. also any good medicine that I could use like maybe biofreeze or blue emu or glucosamine. thanks for any help

How bad is the pain on a scale of 1-10?

If it is 4 or above you need surgery mate.

I truly would say that in the morning it is only about a 2 it is more of a nuisance than actually pain and once I start walking and moving they are fine I am just afraid that if I dont try and stretch them out and strengthen them that when I get to CO they are going to hurt too much to snowboard
