Okay I haven't squated in a long time due to lower back problems. I'm wondering how does your leg press compares to your squat? As in do you leg press more or squat usually?

Squats > Leg presss
Some general reasons:
45 degree angle versus direct opposition to gravity.
Compound movements become less, leg presses are much more limited
Stabilizer use not used resulting in a weak core and other problems with leg presses
Squats stimulate production of androgenic hormones much better than leg presses.

Hey man, I too have very bad lower back problems.
Having these problems has kept me from doing squats or heavy deadlifts. But actually as of today, I did my first set of squats in a while on leg day. I only did 3 sets and I actually did 20,18,12 reps. I also did leg press and hack squats and my legs have never been so sore.
I have been doing legpress to try to substitute squats and I now notice there is no comparison between the two at all.
Start doing squats again if it means that you do very light weight such at 155 or 175lbs for high reps.220lbs
Aiming for 230-240 by next April
