    Talking Rugby Skills

What do you think are the three most important skills for an openside flanker and is there any website with in depth detail of improving these skills plus positional requirements.

hey mate, i played openside flanker.
you need to be following the ball around the field at ALL times, so your fitness must be exeptional in order to be a good flanker or loose forward.
You must be very good at the breakdown, if your defending try and slow the play the ball down and smother it while staying on your feet and you must be quick at doing it otherwise you risk giving away penalties. If your attacking, you've gotta be able to clear out as quickly as you can, so strength and speed come into this a great deal. always be willing to hit the ball up as well lend a helping hand to the forwards and the backs. if your not required at the breakdown then dont hang around there, get out into the backline and create an extra man and just get involved as much as you can.

Basically an open side flanker needs all the skills of a good forward and a good back so dont prioritise your skills, keep them all up to speed and keep improving them all....hope that helps a little

Think about what is happening on the pitch. Make predictions and gamble. Look for runners, look for gaps and stop anybody who comes near you.
