I am new to the forum and bodybuiding, could somebody give me some advise on Splenda. I have been told it is bad and then some people tell me its OK. Thanks for any input.

My advise is not to use it in excess.

Is it good for you? No. Is it bad for you? Possibly, but in moderation nothing's gonna happen. It beats the hell out of drinking straight hfcs, I'll say that much.

There's no proof that aspartame is bad for you, but just consider it's made in a laboratory, it doesn't exist in nature. I recently bought a box of Stevia packets and honestly I can't tell much of a difference between the two.

In the spirit of full-disclosure, you might find this a bit deflating about Stevia -> Stevia?
Specifically these...

Splenda causes thymus damage (reduced immune function)
and kidney and liver enlargement.
Aspartame is worse..it causes brain tumors and a variety of other serious neurological complaints. It is excitotoxic and passes the blood/brain barrier easily. It lowers the threshhold for seizures, etc
All this info is readily available with a simple google.
The only safe sweetener is honey as its antibacterial and antifungal.

1 or 2 packets is probably fine a day. There are some nutjobs on here who have like 1/2 cup/day.. which is the problem.

Sugar is bad, too. >_> Virtually anything made to sweeten things is bad for you in some way. Choose your poison.

Sugar isn't bad. It's natural, and when taken in moderation, it's perfectly fine.

id say IMO that if you feel ur craving sugars just get it from fruits.. probably the best way you can get them in you or from a good milk/dairy source

It's not as bad as aspartame. I have it once or twice a day, every morning in my oatmeal, and then I drink a fair bit of diet nestea, which is sweetened with Splenda. I'm thinking of trying honey in my oatmeal, it'll probably taste like ass but it's worth a shot.

Isn't splenda FIVE HUNDRED TIMES sweeter than table sugar? If you are using that much splenda you have more serious problems than artificial sweeteners. The maximum allowable is 15mg per kilogram of bodyweight. That is an ungodly amount of sweetener, if you ask me.

Sucralose is 500x sweeter than sugar. However, splenda packets, which are mostly dextrose and maltodextrin, are not.

Specifically it gives people and animals brain cancer. This info was hidden by Searle before presenting the aspartame to the FDA and the government pushed for indictments against Searle but the US attorney in Chicago quit and went to work for Searles law firm. Donald Rumsfeld was CEO of Searle and when Reagan became president he forbade the FDA from any decisions until a new ccommissioner was appointed. The new FDA commisioner overruled scientific panels which found aspartame unsafe and approved it anyway. He then went to work for Searle as a consultant.
Aspartame breaks down into 4 substances in the body and all are harmful, aspartic acid, phenylalanine, methanol, and formaldehyde. The body has no way to remove formaldehyde but its the aspartic acid which crosses the blood/brain barrier easily and lowers the "seizure threshold". In other words test subjects (humans) have had a greatly enhanced rate of seizures. They also developed blindness and a high incidence of brain tumors. The actual animal tests on aspartame showed high mortality to neurological damage in both rats and monkeys. These are the studies Searle withheld from the government when seeking approval. There is a program on FSTV entitled "SWEET MISERY' dealing with this health problem but there are also many sites that you can research. Lupus, MS, etc have all been attributed to aspartame as it is an excitotoxin that overstimulates the brain. I know its tough to believe all this but its out there if you search. People are too glib about health risks of these chemicals in our environment.
