So, you want to be a Professional Wrestler?

If you have aspirations of becoming a professional wrestler, it belongs here. If you work in the indies, or have done so, we would appreciate it(I'm sure most would anyway) if you dropped in with some info on how you broke into the business, and tips, and "tricks of the trade" you have learned. This thread can be used for suggestions for those wanting to get into it(find schools, etc.) and other questions that you may have. I know of a few people who have goals of becoming wrestlers on this board, so let me be the first to wish them luck in their journey in becoming a professional wrestler.

... As for me, I'm 16 years old right now, and I'm going to start training at Jesse Hernandez's "School of Hard Knocks" after I graduate from High School. I'll be 17 when I graduate, and won't turn 18 until July 29th(a little over a month after I graduate). I've been in contact with Jesse, and from things I've heard, he seems to be very hands on, and really enjoys what he is doing. I know Dan101, went there for a little bit, but left due to it being more of a high flying school, but I believe he still had good things to say about the place itself, the experience, and Jesse himself.

I think it'd be a good idea to include our stats suh as height, weight, age, etc. as we give the fellow board members a better idea of who & what we are/strive to be.

    ::Currently::
    Age: 16 Years Old
    Height: 5'5
    Weight: 145.0 ibs.

    ::Goals for summer::
Add a solid 20 ibs, and then once start school after a month or so, cut down.

Hope you guys enjoy this thread, and hopefully we'll get some good advice from former/current wrestlers, and a better idea of who here plans to take wrestling as far as it will go. I wish to see this thread is used as a positive thread, but at the same time, being realistic doesn't neccessarily mean a bad thing. Basically, constructive criticism and tips and ideas are welcome...

And without further ado, thanks in part to 97LT1, I bring to you... So, you want to be a Professional Wrestler? **Official** thread.

I wish you the best of luck. Keep us posted on how close you get, and when you actually start, on how it goes. And I know exactly how that is to want to wrestle in front of a hot audience.

Thanks man. Yeah I've been to a few of their shows and they all were great audiences, for very small venues. Do you train, or have you had a match?

No, I have yet to be officially trained, but I do wrestle around with friends on occasion. Not like hardcore backyard wrestling, just wrestling that can relate to the WWE's style. My Style's pretty much are a variety of Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, AJ Styles, Shawn Michaels and some Flair/Triple H. I practice promos regularly, and feel it's pretty vital to be able to deliever somewhat of a promo. As for promo work, I love Flair, Roddy Piper, The Rock, Austin, Triple H & Christian. I think I am pretty much a natural babyface, although, I can turn it up and become a heel, but actually, I prefer the babyface role.

im in contact w/a couple board members and we always discuss how great we'll be, half joking but in the back of our minds thats all we want. i have no idea why im compelled to wrestling and sometimes i lay in bed and think "are my friends right? is this just me acting immature?" but im sure that if loving wrestling is immature im just a baby. because i do. danny wrestles around and does stuff like that whereas i mostly just bump, feed up, and nip up. ill practice those 3 relatively safe things for about 30 minutes a night. im going to start boxing to get my agility and endurance up because my parents think its unwise to start training to be a pro wrestler before graduation (theyre worried about my neck, not me getting hit). i have somewhat of a martial arts background that i think will help me, and i recently lost 7 lbs. because i run so much. ill train most likely in phoenix while i attend a year of community college. then ill head to San Diego State University and work indy shows in the southern cali area and hopefully land some japan tours over the summers. its my wild dream, but i wouldnt have it any other way.

Height: 5' 9'' (and a half, because im insecure)
Weight: A newly ripped to shreds 146-ish (im embarrassed of that one, so please dont flame)
Favorite Wrestler: HHH and HBK...realistically ill pattern myself after HBK as im not gonna be near HHH's size.

if i make it big, ill go until im 38 and asses my physical and mental health and see where ill go from there. if im nothing special, ill quit when im 30 and put things in perspective. ill put my degree to use, and settle down. at some point, ill have to look at it seriously.

oh and just to clarify, i will be something special.

oh and also, if i break my neck prior to WWE stardom, i will cut my career short so as to make some money in business and still have an inkling of health.

I also haven't started yet. The only real experience I have is putting on wrestling matches for my youth group at church and playing around with moves in my room. I graduate from high school next month. My parents want me to go to college so I can have a "marketable skill". But the only marketable skill I give a rat's a** about ever having is wrestling. It's what I love, it's the only thing I've ever wanted to do, and I know deep within my heart that if I pursue this, I will not fail because I will do anything to succeed. My parents on the otherhand despise wrestling. They think it's just trash. They say they won't help me finance it, but that's fine with me. I'm willing to earn the money on my own. The fact that my parents don't support me in what means more to me than anything else in my life does hurt, however. Sometimes I cry about it because out of all the people in the world, your parents are supposed to support you the most. But if I have to run away from home, I guess that's what I'll do, however I seriously doubt I'll have to resort to that. My mom has never really come out and said it, but I can tell she wants me not to succeed in wrestling. She probably thinks it's just a stage in my life and expects me not to go far with it before I "grow out of it". But that will never happen because there was a seed planted deep inside me a long time ago whose roots continue to grow day-by-day. And someday a flower will bloom and I will prove everyone who says I can't do it wrong. Some of you may think that sounded stupid, but it's straight from my heart. Anyway, hopefully I can dodge college, and start wrestling training at Deep South Wrestling in Atlanta after I save up enough money from my job. But one way or another, I will make this work and you people will see me in the future. So, good luck to all the rest of you. You're gonna need it, because we've got one helluva challenge ahead of us.

Height: 5'8" (I'm confident I'll grow some more. My dad, uncle, and their dad all grew in college)
Weight: 150 (currently bulking. probably will be for a good while.)
Favorite Wrestler(s): (in alphabetical order because I can't choose one over the other) Batista, Booker T, Edge, The Rock

Regardless if you go to college(which is smart, btw) or go right out of HS, best of luck to you. Personally, college is't an option to me, because half of what college is to me, is figuring what you want to do with your life. and if I already know, then what's the point. I know it's important to have a backup, but oh well thsat's not my philosphy. Failure is not an option. Injury or not, Height limitations or not.

Well I sure as hell have aspirations of being a Pro Wrestler(hince my name) anyway, I am 17 right now and my Junior year of HS is over in 1 more week and I start training next Monday!!!!!!! I cant wait, since I was 4 years old I have said I wanted to be a wrestler and when I was younger my parents and family thought I was just a regular kid wanting to be a star someday and I would eventually outgrow it, but I never did and never will! I am VERY lucky that my family is all fans of pro wrestling(except my grandparents) and they all support me and want me to succeed(but my mom is scared to death about it and says she will only watch my matches b/c its important to me.) I have HUGE plans for myself and I WILL make it BIG someday, just wait and see I start training under a man named Sacro Jr and I will stay with him and work for his promotion(Foothills Wrestling Alliance) and other local indy feds until I graduate HS, then I will continue to work indy shows all around the country and world hopefully until I reach my bodybuilding goals which are to be between 210-220 lbs with under 10% bodyfat. After I reach that goal I will enroll myself into the intermediate program at OVW and hopefully soon there after I will be invited to the Advanced program which is a WWE Developmental deal and from there I am on my way to the top and will be known as one of the greatest WWE champions of all time. I know I have BIG plans and dreams and all of yall should too. I hope we ALL reach our goals and can meet each other in the ring one day, its a date.

just for the record lets go ahead and state our names, mine is Brian Hill.

Wow you are lucky. I wish my parents felt that way. I wish they would realize that this is more important to me than anything else in my life and support me, whether they like wrestling or not. But their opinion will not keep me from reaching my dreams.
I don't feel entirely comfortable putting my whole name on a public forum, but for those of you who are wondering, you can just call me...Corbin.

    Exclamation

Fellas', it's nice to here so many of you having such drive about wrestling. I am currently 20 years old and have been working the indy circuit for about 1 year and 2 months now. I had to stop for six months b/c i am currently deployed to iraq with the marine corp. But, i will be back in september so it will be time to get back into it!!! ... I first started training when i was 18, at a school in NC. It is run by former WCW star, The Maestro. I have always felt that wrestling came natural to me, so i progressed pretty quickly. When i started there i was about 180 lbs (5'11''), so my style was a technical with some high flying(no corkscrew moonsalts stuff ,but more of an eddie gurerro style). By the time i had graduated i was up to 190-195. And now i am 215. My sytle has changed a bit, with less high flying moves and more of a power based offence. Point being, don't limit your self to one style of wrestling, always learn as much as possible, b/c when your look changes, (as mine did) in some ways so must your style of offence. When i worked my first match on Feb.28 2004 i was so nervous. It was the biggest rush of my life, i loved it. By the way, i got chopped countless times in that match. I guess he was breaking me into the business. I went back to the hotel that night and my chest and back was welped up and bleeding a little, but i didn't care i was just glad i was a wrestler!
Thats all i got for now i will reply later!!!
-- these are pictures of me, taken before my first match. I was about 190 lbs here.

I envy those of you who have already started training or are active on the indy scene.

Here's where I want to train http://www.wildsamoan.com/ It's the place where guys like Batista, Rosey and Gene Snitsky have trained at. Later this year I will hopefully have saved up enough to move out that way and start my training. I've always been a fan or professional wrestling and I've always had the dream to make it but didnt always possess the desire and determination to pursue that dream. Awhile ago my fiancee left me, I lost our apartment and after that I started getting serious about this. Since then I've cleaned up my life, payed off all my debts, powerlifted and trained like an animal and worked alot of different jobs (I never went to college after graduation so I take what I can get). Now things have gotten so under control, I can feed myself, save up and even have a little left over sometimes which I mostly spend on wrestling-related stuff. When I make it, I hope to start in WXW then before it's over I'd love to have a stint in WWE, TNA and a long carrear in Japan. If I could, I would follow a style like Kenta Kobashi's, Brock Lesnar's and Dr.Death Steve Williams. I have some BIG DREAMS to follow.

    Height: 6'4
    Weight: 270
not sure what my bodyfat is. Last time I had it measured it was 20%

And hey if I work hard but am still horrible in the ring, I'm confident I could still have a job with WWE because we know how they love big men.
