Due to my need to rehabilitate a serious hand/wrist injury as well as going through a painful bout of sciatica, I have been trying out some alternative workout machines. For instance I performed a number of sets on a friends Prospot electronic weight training apparatus that requires you to grasp a barbell (your hands grasp an electronic sensor on the bar) that is suspended by guiding wires and to lift it one inch to release it. You then perform your set and when finished all you have to do is open your hands, thereby releasing the sensor on the bar, and the barbell is immmediately suspended at what ever point in the lift you let it go! This is not a Smith Machine BUT free weight. I found the workout to be extremely effective and the fact that you can open your hands at any point in the exercise, if experiencing pain, without the need for a spotter, enabled me to have a pain free workout. BTW, the barbell can hold over 500 pounds.

The other machine I tried is the commercial Bio Force that I found at a local sporting goods store. Quite frankly I was surprised by the "weight" feel of this machine and the fact that one can get a full range of motion workout. In addition, the fact that there are no rods but a device (they call it nitrocell technology- whatever!) that enables you to change the level of resistance while seated on the machine is a plus. For what it is, I was able to get an effective workout without aggravating my injuries.
Anyone else have any experiences with these machines?
