I think the dieting approach will impact whether or not it's in the diet or how much people are eating. If your approach is a moderate carb/low fat approach, there really isn't much room to fit in into the daily macronutrients. If you are taking the low carb/moderate fat approach, then almonds/peanut butter and the like are usually staples in the diet.
Thanks, now I'm hungry LOL

I had PB in my diet earlier, as I prefer dietary fat to supplemental fat whenever possible, but almond butter, pb and nuts were removed this week - they taste too good and the possibility of slipping up is very real. I replaced my nighttime PB serving with ground flaxmeal for good fats + fiber.

absolutely. How much usually depends on my macro breakdown. usually 1-2 tablespoons. I have it at any meal except for pre and post workout which is when i have my carbs. I run it all the way through the show.

You're not cheating on your diet if you are hitting your daily numbers LOL. So, as long as it fits into your macros, by all means....EAT SOME!

Oh yeah, natural PB is huge for me, otherwise getting my fat intake becomes very difficult. Gotta love super chunk!

I agree that as long as it fits into your macros, it's okay. I do moderate carb/low fat, so I might have 1/2-1 tablespoon of natural PB per day. Make sure you measure it

Almond butter
Cut out pb and almond butter till ur carb up phase why add the extra fat to work off. I only took in 1 tbl spoon in my meals 4 and 5 the day before the show. Almond butter has fat in it and if u have ever heard of competiors eating a big steak and potato the night before the show. U are accomplishing the same results with the almond butter but u r not taking a risk with a bad piece of steak.

I tend to add peanut butter to my contest diet when I get close to peaking (4-6 weeks out) and start craving it a LOT. This is telling me that I my body is getting leaner and looking for extra fat to consume. I've found that adding peanut butter (good fat) into my diet my body consumes it readily and seems to burn some of my own bodyfat along with it.
When you're on a diet your body has a lot of extra body fat that it can consume for energy (which is the process your body loses fat during a diet)... however, over time when you get leaner the body starts to fight this process as a defense practice (it doesn't want to get too lean). By adding fat back into your diet at this point you give your body once again an appetitie for fat for energy (compared to muscle mass).
I find even a tsp of peanut butter a 1/2 hour before training gives me a big boost of energy, especially when on a very low carb diet. I only consume peanut butter when I am on a low carb cycling period.
As with any diet, you have to carefully monitor your intake and macros and make sure that you stay within your calorie intake zone. Eating peanut butter does not give you a free wheeling opportunity to eat the whole jar! I once instructed one of my clients to start eating a 1/2 cup of almonds per day... he couldn't control himself and ate the whole can at one sitting. He was never allowed to be near them again! Will Power People!

You still need fat in your contest prep diet. As long as you are hitting your targetted fat...it should not matter whether it is coming from PB, AB, or Fish oils....Ideally you want to have a variety of fat sources.

Honestly in my opinion pb is to dangerous unless you have a scale to make sure you on eat exactly the amount that complys with your macros. I just bought a digital food scale for this contest prep and I realized that usually whats it supposed to be a 2 tbsp serving is usually easy to get on one tbsp. So measured what I usually got to what was the accurate amount and I was getting 70gs when a actual serving is just 32gs. I had to get all peanuts, almonds and walnuts out of the house nearing the end of my prep because I couldnt stop thinking about how good they taste and my mind would start talking **** like "just a little more, its gonna increase your metabolic rate. It wont kill you....". After of week of playing the mental game one day I just got up and throughout 2lbs of almonds, 2lbs of walnuts, and a jar of natty pb. It sounds crazy but I just know I would have been getting up late at night haveing "just a little more" otherwise. Now my only sources are fish oil, olive oil, flax oil and avacado and I swear I have never ever been tempted to eat more fish oil.

TCANNON,
fish oil is fine to use as well, but as long as you get out your tbs measure thingy majobber, PB is money and to me is kind of a little treat.

TCannon you sound just like me. I'm only using macadamia oil and flaxmeal now since nuts/nut butters are too good to risk it this close! I did enjoy them as long as I felt i could trust myself.

Devouring them all.
I've had nightmares about eating a whole jar of PB in the night.

Haha,
I use PB right before bed, 1 tbsp and I shut my mouth, it just becomes a matter of how bad you want that better placing when you go into battle.

Actually, I know people who have woken up while in the fridge, eating. So I guess I want it bad enough to wait another 4 weeks.

Remember, NOTHING is really calorie free, so don't go over a serving at a time.

I think they're fine if you don't use more than a serving at a time. From 2 weeks out, I don't use anything for added flavoring at all. It's mind over matter.
