Homemade Bar Recipe
These bars are great!! I just made my second batch after experimenting the first time, and I must say they taste good, are pretty inexpensive to make, and are 50 times better for you than what you get when you buy a protein bar. Plus, I have had no solidity issues that a lot of other people have complained about. So, here it is:
3 cups of oats
2 cups skim milk
half cup of raisins
9 scoops of whey protein (chocolate)
2 fat free chocolate pudding containers (ready to eat ones)
2 tablespoons of natural peanut butter (more or less depending on cutting or bulking phase)
1/2 cup splenda
1/4 cup vanilla fat free yogurt
1 1/2 tablespoon of cinnamon
Bake on 370 for 35 minutes. Then cool and slice into bars... should make about 17 bars (depending on how you cut them). I then put each one in a ziplock bag and store them in the fridge (keeps them fresh). Then in the morning when i go to work I will take a couple with me, they stay fresh throughout the day.

Yes but the question has been brought up a few times. Is the denaturing process permanent? the other question that I haven't seen answered (but that may be because I missed it) is wether whey proteins become inactive or how much their bioavailabilty changes when they are heat denatured.
Obviously it has been mentioned that egg proteins become more bioavailable once they have denatured, is the opposite true of whey, milk, and micellar?
In the same vein adding certain ingredients could denature your protein.

As far as I know, "un"denaturing is impossible. Denaturing changes the shape of the protein or enzyme and prevents whatever substrate involved in the process from being acted upon.
You still get the protein, obviously, from denatured way. You just lose the benefits of the extra activity it can do inside your body.

COLD-FILTERED .... it bioavailability drops as it is heated at higher temperatures over longer times ... some of the protein chains start to unfold and become denatured ... not having the same effects as they would previously

if this is true, why do so many people suggest making homemade to go protein bars, if the protein in them is useless? riddle me this

Cuz you can make them without cooking
do a search, I published the recipe of my own creation about a year ago:
MagicPunt's MRBs (Meal Replacement Bars):
Combine in large mixing bowl:
3 Cups Oatmeal
1/2 Cup Natural Peanut butter
1 cup Skim Milk
4 Scoops Protein Powder
dash of cinnamon
Mix with a large spoon or knife until a sticky batter is formed (may take a few minutes)
use the spoon or knife to spread out the mix into the bottom of a Pam-sprayed glass or metal cooking tray (spread until even)
top with 4-8 packets splenda
put in the fridge overnight and cut into 8 equal bars that yield:
11g fat (good monounsaturated fats)
26g carbs
21g protein
285 calories
I also have some without peanut butter, search button = amazing

The protein is not "useless." It is still a superior source of protein, is still digestible and it still counts. All you lose is the function of the proteins in the whey (i.e. immune stimulation, anabolic growth stimulation, glutathione stimulation, etc). However, as one baked protein bar is not your sole source of protein for the day, the loss of function should not make much of a difference in the end.

I just made some great no bake bars today
120g oats
2 tbsp pb
2 scoops whey
1 package sugar free fat free butterscotch pudding
toss it in a food processor or blender and add water little by little ... until it just starts to stick together into a really thick dough... dump it out, make two equal bars, store em in the fridge and enjoy.
