Jay Rich, your friend is absolutely right. After a workout your muscles have lost their energy and they are starting to break down. At this time you want to repair your muscles as fast as possible and you do this by drinking a substance with glucose (dextrose) in it. Sugars enter into the blood stream the fastest and are then transferred to the muscle cells via insulin. Sugars cause high levels of insulin in the blood stream. Now when you eat protein with this dextrose, it gets a piggy back ride right into the muscle cells. So at this time your muscles are being refilled with energy by glucose and they are getting filled up with the amino acids from protein so the muscles are stimulated in that they are going to up the process of protein synthesis (muscle building) with these amino acids. Don't go and think that you can do this for every meal though, because it won't work. Post work out is the time when your muscles are empty, but through out the rest of the day, they are probably full and if your muscles are full, the glucose (dextrose) will then be transferred into fat cells, thus making you fat.

haha would definitely recommend less than 1g protein per pound of LBM in this case... that's a whole lot of favours from friends.
"Never attempt to train yourself into a caloric deficit. Don't spend hours on the treadmill. Diet comes first, cardio second. The dumbest fat loss strategy ever devised is used by people that wake up early in the morning before going to work to do cardio and follow that up with "recovery shake." Congratulations, you just wasted two hours of your life." Martin Berkhan
