Safe to eat canned tuna how often?

I heard that we should not eat more than two cans of tuna a week due to mercury buildup in our system.

    Is this true?

If so, it makes it tough for me because on a lean bodybuilding diet, I can eat at least a can of tuna every day or every other day.

Is this something I should worry about?

Many people eat at least 1 can of tuna a day. Your body should be fine, the Mercury should not be harmful.

Thanks that helps a lot. I will look for "Chunk Light Tuna"....although at the moment I don't know how that is different from other tuna, I am sure I will see it on the shelf.

Chunk light tuna is harvested at an earlier age than albacore (those are two canned tuna, commonly), and chunk light has about 33% the mercury content of albacore. I believe chunk light has .12 parts per million mercury, while albacore is .35 PPM. That information is from the source listed below.

Perfect! I hate albacore anyway, it is too dry. And the chunk light stuff is CHEAP. Perfect.

    Cool

Many guys here have one or more cans a day. There's a lot of threads on it, just search for tuna + mercury.

Here's another link to an FDA article on mercury levels in fish:

    http://www.fda.gov/fdac/reprints/mercury.html

Usually I'll have one 6 oz can/day and get the rest of my protein from chicken, turkey, eggs, cottage cheese, whey, & skim milk.

Yeah these threads are getting out of hand. I would really like to know the answer to this, since I've heard that unless you're a women that's pregnant don't worry about mercury poisoning - and that's only with like shark, swordfish, etc. I mean it's not that big a deal I'll drop my albacore and just stick to chunk light, but whatever.
I've still got a lot to learn.
