I HATE Public Speaking
I'm taking COMM 101 this semester and have to give four 5-minute speeches. It sucks, I'm a pretty quiet person and hate talking in front of a group of people like this, especially doing a speech.
I'm really worried I'm going to think about an old guy tripping on the sidewalk and spilling his groceries everywhere. Something like this would make me start laughing in the middle of my presentation, probably uncontrollably.
Anyone else have this anxiety and frustration with public speaking?

I hate it, dread in when I have to do it. But somehow, it always goes ok as long as I know what I'm talking about. It'll be the same, if you know what your saying, it will be fine.

I took the class online cause i hate speeches. I never used to have a problem till i had to read a 2 page, complicated poem in front of my literature class. That was traumatic enough to make me not want to give anymore, so i got a prescription of xanax for the presentations i had to do and it worked really good. Its always better to get over it and just do it on your own, but the stress honestly isnt worth it some times.

It's a requirement for the program I'm in. It ****ing pisses me off, I can think of few things I'd rather do less than give a speech.

Hey bud, dont sweat it too much. In my COMM class my freshman year of college our teacher gave us a chioce. Do 6 4-7 Min speaches in front of our class (bout 90 people) or at the end of the year give 1 15 min speach to the student body and factuly (bout 2500). THree of us chose to do the 15 min speech and i did mine on plastic surgery the other 2 people (1 guy, 1 girl) didnt show up. idk where this storys going but just jot little notes down to urself such as breath, slow down, look around, and pracitce a little before hand and youll be fine. Everyone is just as nervous as you so they arnt gunna do anything stupid during your speech cause they dont want it done during theirs. I been giving speeches in front of big crowds since i was around 13 and i think the nervousness slowly goes away. Just make sure to cut down on the UMS, UHHHS, and jittering about!

1. be confident when you speak
2. public speaking is just a public sales pitch, it really helps if you are really passionate about what you'er talking about.
3. Try to treat it as a face to face conversation. All rules apply, don't fidget, keep eye contact, don't touch your face, use hand motions when speaking (not too much though). These are all things you would do when talking to someone one on one right?

Even tho I had a very strong stutter as a kid . I decided one day that I wanted to be in a school play .......after trying out for 4 parts they finally gave in and gave me a part ......I said every word of my lines .boldly and proud to a spot about 6 inches over the crowds head and my lines where long ......I never missed a beat .........I found out that day that even tho Im some what of a loner by nature ..I am also a natural leader who shines bright under pressure .........You can do this !!!!

In a public speaking class I gave a speech on coffee. It was so pimp I got an anonymous feedback card that said "You'd make a good husband."
MY WORDS MAKE PANTIES WET SON!

Swallow some beta-blockers before you give the speech - POW anxiety gone.
Then you can focus just on your speech.

Opening up with something funny ALWAYS works...it really takes off the edge if the class laughs. it can be anything....my professor always used to say good afternoon class so ijust walked up and said good afternoon class and the girls started laughing...retarded yes, but it takes the edge off

LOL!!! I went to Emerson College in Boston. EVERY class required some kind of presentation or speech. Use it as an opportunity to look smart and articulate. You might impress some girls.
