Question Need help with leg exercises

Hi all,
I am very new here and new to exercising in general. I want to tone my legs, but I am terrified that any exercises I do will only add mass. I had very large muscular thighs in high school and I hated it! I am looking for long lean but really toned and fit looking legs---any ideas for exercises that might fit the bill?
I am starting to look into running or at least jogging (LOL, don't know if there is a difference to people out there) does that sound like a reasonable route?
Any and all help greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.
jean

you could do all leg exercises with high reps - I'm looking for the same

squats 3x15 reps
lunges 3x15
bench step ups 3x15 (each leg)

my legs haven't added mass at all only toned up

Thanks so much. I did some squats the other day and I am not really sure of my form yet, I will have to check some videos to be sure, but I am planning to hang in there. I am really looking forward to some really toned and fit legs! I also checked with a friend of mine who is a runner and she said that either walking or jogging will tone and firm up the thighs without adding bulk to them so I am super stoked about starting---even went and got me some running shoes! Good luck to you with your goals and thanks again!
