    Pre-contests rituals

    Hey Guyz, I'd like to get your opinion on the following pre-contest rituals:
    1) Niacin (1/2 hr prior to show)
    2) Glass of wine (1/2 prior...)
    3) Glycerol (45 min prior...)
    4) The use of enema (the morning of... to flaten abs)
    5) Hot Stuff
    6) Creatine and gutamine (the morning of...)
    7) Preparation H (all over body 1-2 hrs before)

    Dont' know about niacin, heard preparation H works well. Screw the enema. I don't think drinking wine will make that much of a difference, sodium depletion should take care of excess liquid. I took creatine the day of my contest and it didn't seem to bother me but others cut it out a 2 weeks before hand.

    Personaly, I only use glycerol and 1/2 tab of niacin 30min before a show. but I am thinking of experimenting with Preparation H.

    I agree with you "screw the enema". But that is one of the many strange things you see backstage.

    enema? I have heard of that practice before. More common whith lighter wieghts. True it is very gross, but if you want to show off a great old fashioned (needs to make a comeback) vacume pose it is a must.

    When I first heard of someone using an enema, was backstage at the tri-state bodybuilding championships 1999. he said it "empties" his stomach complitely, for a flater look. this is especially usefull, and might give you an edge on those poses where your feet are parallel to the audience, waist is twisted so that your chest faces the crowd. Back looks even bigger, waist even smaller than what it actually is.

    Personaly I have no plans of experimenting with it (enema). but I've heard it works fine.

    The wine trick works GREAT

    As does the Niacin.

    Prep H doesn't do much right before a show. You have to start using that like 2wks out before you go to bed and wrap yourself in SaranWrap around your mid-section.

    Glycerine works like a charm but you need to start it earlier and "load" it.

    I Tried Niacin before, it turned me Red as a Tomato wich was cool Cuz I looked more taned than what I was but I did not get the increased vascularity that I was told I would get. Glycerol, However Worked great. I was doing the south Jersey natural 1999 and 45 min after I had two tablespoons I was seeing veins that I didn't even know I had, Stuff I had never seen before (at least on my body). I highly recomend it.

    Glycerine is the short chain of a fatty acid basically it's like a fat that has been cut in half. It is digested at the same speed as a protein but acts like a carbohydrate in the body for all intensive purposes. It has an ability to pull alot of water inside of muscle cells for a short period of time superhydrating them. This if you are really lean it will give you the appearance of more vascularity.

    Brad, I have not heard of a Glycerine supplement but, you can find Glycerol (I hope we are talking about the same thing here ) at any supplement store. Twinlab makes Glycerol Fuel and there is also Liquid Muscle. they run for about $24/bottle , it looks and tastes a little like Pancake Syrup. all you do is take two tablespoons with 6 to 12 oz of water, wait 15 min. Pump a little and then MAGIC!

    Glycerol has the ability to increase blood plasma volume and/or take water from under the skin and drawing it into the muscle, The result is a great Pump and increased vascularity. But as Str8 Said this will only work if you are already lean. Cuz if you are fat you'll only look like a balloon about to bust.

    They sell it in this site for 19.95 cheapest price I've seen.

    P.S. Str8, Kendo, Bicepskidd and Meathead Why don't you guyz tell everyone what your pre-contes rituals are?

    protein bar before comp.

    Ok so I understand that glycerol and glycerine are the same thing. Most of those protein bars list glycerin as the second ingredient after their (usually) inferior protein blend. Anyone tried taking a protein bar before going onstage instead of glycerol fuel? I've heard of one competitor doing this with success although i'm not sure if he knew that the glycerine was supposed to help pull water out. It seems like it would be effective and much cheaper than spending $20 on glycerol fuel.


    After all, all these accessories - posing trunks, protan, npc card, entry fee, and not to mention whole food is adding up!

    Actulally they are not the same thing. They Are similar, but no the same. they are both 3-alcohols that work as slow burning carbohidrates. The glycerine in the bars is used as a solvent (to blend all other ingredients) and as a Plastiziser (to make the the bar hard enough to keep its shape). Also, glycerine has shown to provide a Boost of energy.

    However, Glycerol is much more concentrated. In other words you might have to eat 12 or 15 bars to get enough glycerine to get the same effect of 2 tablespoons of Glycerol.

    Besides if you consider the fact that you have already invested 16 weeks of hard training and dieting. $24 doesn't seem much for a nice "final touch".

    P.S just go and buy a bottle!

    Whoa thanks for the clarification latinmuscle I did a search and found that bb.com has the glycerol fuel for only like $6.89/bottle for 15 servings @ 2 tbsp each. Very cheap!! Anyways, i think it said on there to take it like 24 hours before a show or something like that but what's your experience? i've heard of ppl taking it approx 45 mins before stage time.

    Also this hasn't been addressed yet - all these precontest rituals such a niacin, red wine, glycerol, etc - should they be done for both the morning pre-judging and the night show or will doing these for the pre-judging make you look softer at night (especially the glyercol). Also, what type of niacin do you all use to get flushed and what dosage?

    Suposedly, you get a better results when you take it 16-24 hrs before the show and then again 45 min before pre-judging. Personaly I have always taken 2 tbsp 45 minutes before pre-judging and 1 tbsp 30 min before night show. It has worked for me every time. You need to take it again for the night show because the effect of glycerol seems to start fading out after 2-3 hours but dont take more than a spoon cuz you get reverse effect (bloat) when you over do it.

    Niacin-
    1/2 tab 1 hour before pre-judging, is enough for the whole show.

    Red wine-
    I realy don't know if anybody still drinks a cup of wine before pre-judging. There are probably oldheads that still do it out there. this is something that was popular in the Arnold days.
    A lot of bodybuilders today drink 2-3 glasses of wine the night before the show in order to hold less water. It works in 3 ways 1)as a mild narcotic it relaxes you, Thus supresses the body's production of Amonia (the stuff that causes stress also makes your body hold water). 2) the antioxidants (bi-flavanoids) on the wine also prevents Amonia production. 3) alcohol works as a diuretic.
