    holy neck strain

so i didnt properly warm up - and bam, tweaked the right side of my neck
felt it a bit, but didnt think much of it, so i finished my workout and went home, all night i couldnt sleep!

my right side of the neck was so flipping tight i couldnt do anything but tilt my head to keep tension off it, and even then every slight movement sent rockets of pain throughout my head.

so went to the sports doc, even she couldnt directly do anything, gave me some Robax - a muscle relaxement and ive been taking that, as well as doing the cold/heat method, pain is still there but the neck has loosened up a bit.

    so please guys, warmup!!!!!

Dude, I know how ya feel.

I strained something last Friday in my neck/trap area, while doing cable upright rows. It's a pain/strain that starts in the upper right neck area, and shoots down towards the middle of my back.

Heat, ice? Any advice? I've been popping whatever I could find for muscular aches, and applying Icyhott, and this pain is still here!

Just came across your thread and registered to post. I just did the exact same thing last monday. I usually run before a workout so im good and loose but all of the treadmills were full. So I hopped right on the pec flies and on my 4th set when I hit about 100% weight I strained my neck. Felt like someone punched me in the back of the head.

I had put ice on it and taken a few hot showers and I thought it was all better until today. I was lifting a box at work (not super heavy but I had to tense my neck to lift it) and BAM full on pain (im sitting here in pain now typing this). Do you have any tips other than wait it out and use ice? I guess maybe thats all I can do. More importantly do you have any idea how long it will last? I am dying to get a good workout in.

yea guys neck pain can be rough some times. I went through it about a year ago, went to the doc and he just told me to take some naproxen (aleve) and ice it. Needless to say it did nothing and I couldn't move my neck at all basically. Driving was out of the question and only at about 4 pm after moving around all day could i tilt my head even the slightest. Then after about a week, it just went away pretty fast. Just be veryy careful not to re strain it because it wont take much to start the process back over again

Sounds like an acute wry neck.

Ice and anti-inflammatory medication is good.

Physio or chiro should have it fixed in 1 or 2 visits.

    just a follow-up

i took the muscle relaxeant and that loosened up my incredibly tight neck, pain was still there, continued using rub A535 and icing it occasionally, took about a week, but the pain is gone and i had a hard chest/tricep workout yesterday and not one hiccup... i will definitely take more effort to properly warm up on sets before hitting the hard ones, especially on shoulderday
