Has someone explained to them the concept of market value?
Someone tell these idiots they are only worth what an owner is willing to pay. Shut up and run the ball.

i roll my eyes at all the complaints about the franchise tag. this was all just negotiated in 2020 with a 10-year agreement. your union agreed to this.
as for RBs specifically, they have done it to themselves with so many of the guys falling on their face right after getting paid. also way too many examples of a backup / lower round pick getting an opportunity and being nearly as productive or more.

Correct, with all of the offense friendly rule changes / modifications, especially in terms of passing, it doesnt make sense to run a traditional backfield. Easier with higher success rate to have your mobile QB RPO in a designed roll out in short yardage situations. Why have a traditional run game when the yds/play for passing is demonstrably better? I dont see folks crying rivers for traditional MLB's and NT's, and the same market change is happening for them as well, just not as fast.
Its no different than the traditional power forward spot in basketball getting phased out to favor stretch 4's. You will get run off the floor with 2 bigs. The traditional power forward is now called an undersized backup center. Learn to shoot, or you get market corrected.
Same thing is happening in the NFL, RB's need to follow the mold of CMC / Deebo / Cook / etc, because traditional RB's are quickly becoming slow slot WR's / short TE's.
EDIT...... I do however feel bad for them getting franchise tagged, just as I do for any player getting the tag. Its brutal for players, and being grossly abused by the owners. Totally within the rules, but am almost always pro-players vs. ownership, so hate seeing is grossly abused.

it sucks for them because they have a short shelf life, and take a lot of punishment, but it makes sense. Passing is so much more efficient. The difference between a chitty rb and an elite one is about a yard per carry(3.5 vs 4.5).
Why pay Jacobs or Barkley a chit ton of money when you can split the load with a James Robinson, C-Patt, and some 4th round rookie, and do quick screens/reverses to guys like Tyreek Hill or Deebo then have a Justin Fields or Tayson Hill run an option with the threat of a pass.

Running back Saquon Barkley has signed his franchise tag with the New York Giants, the team announced Tuesday.
The deal is a one-year, adjusted franchise tag worth $10.1 million fully guaranteed and up to $11 million with incentives, sources told ESPN. The tag was adjusted to add a $2 million signing bonus, as well as the incentives, sources said.
The $909,000 in incentives includes an equal amount paid for three categories: 1,350 rushing yards and a playoff berth, 11 touchdowns and 65 receptions, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The deal does not include a "no franchise tag" clause, sources told ESPN, meaning the Giants can tag him again after this season. This is something Barkley and his team were hoping to receive.
This was quite a concession by Barkley to report on the first day of training camp for veterans. The Pro Bowl running back was already in the building Tuesday before 8 a.m. ET, a source told ESPN.

i remember "back in the day" when "old school" coaches taught ground and pound football to control the game. Now QB's be throwing it 40-60 times a game.
now teams are getting RB's on rookie deals and when it comes time for a new contract, draft another RB rookie deal and get similar results*** Free Thinker Crew ***

i don't think that's the case at all. many of them work out great, they just don't last.
even recently. najee harris, zeke, saquon all started out great. i'm sure bijan will be great this year. but nobody's going to want them after they turn 25-26 years old.
saquon's new deal - not really impressed by this at all. he basically needs to have a career year in multiple ways, and would get a 900k bonus. that's a lot of money in real life but not in his life for what he'd be doing to get it.
