    Someone refresh my memory what's this piece of equipment called?

    It a belt with a bungee cord and another belt at the other end that can be attached to a stationary object or another runner.

    What's the official name for it?

    no, this one stays attached. it's way to perform assisted sprints. the kind you're talking about is for mirror drills and quickness. thanks though.

    The breakaway belt is called a bullet belt, the other one is called the doubleman speed belts or partner towing belts, at least that is what we called them.
