Need advice for figure posing

I am six weeks out from my first figure competiton. I go through a posing practice for 15-30 each day. I am having a really hard time with the big arch in the back...I don't have one.

Advice for stretching/exercise to increase the arch in my back????

Thanks all!!!

I'm guessing you are referring to pushing your chest up/out and sticking your butt out thus creating an arch in your back. You know, I had a client, she just could not seem to get that for some reason.

Its an awkward pose to be sure, only thing I can suggest is that you first practice standing straight, and bring your chest up which is going to naturally pull your chin in. Once you get that, then simultaneously stick your butt out . I find that simply bring my chest up to my chin, my back naturally arches.

But everyone is a little different. I hope this helps. Hopefully someone will see this and offer another suggestion if this does not work for you.

Thank you ma'am! I will try this today during my posing time. I didn't know if I just wasn't "built" to arch that much or if my form was just bad.

:0 )

Thumbs up

Try 2 things:

1) Think of rolling your Butt up towards your shoulders(Scapula)
2) As you do #1 look up & back towards the ceiling. This should help you really FEEL the arch. Now really concentrate on how this feels so you can replicate it.

Then keeping that arched position look strait ahead as if you are posing on stage at a show.

Hope this helps.

BTW you look like you are contest ready. Good Luck!!

Thanks for the advice. This is the one portion of the posing that has really given me a tough time (and learning a lat spread). I will try this technique today! I was afraid that this was a genetic thing...

I'll let you know how it goes! Thanks again for the help.

As far as being contest ready, thank you for the lovely compliment. I worry daily about having enough size. I'm pretty tall and just don't want to look like a string bean! :0)
