I tried the search function didn't really find anything conclusive, so I was hoping to broach the topic here. In general I'm pretty curious about what people think of Dr. Mercola and how valid his advice is... I ran across a few posts from AA back in 2006 on the topic, but obviously it's been a long while since then.
More specifically, this is what was presented to me this morning: http://krilloil.mercola.com/krill-oi...0825_DNL_art_1. It's nothing new, and it's been all over the supplements forum, but again, hoping some of the nutrition people wanted to chime in?
Thanks

Krill contain LC omega-3s and significant amounts of phospholipids and antioxidants such as the carotenoid astaxanthin. The potential health benefits from these attributes are being marketed in various forms of krill oil products. However, the fatty acid profile of krill oil can vary by as much as twofold depending on the region, season of harvest, and interannual variability (Phleger CF, Nelson MM, Mooney BD, Nichols PD. Interannual and between species comparison in the lipids, fatty acids, and sterols of Antarctic krill from the US AMLR Elephant Island survey area: 1997 and 1998. Comp Biochem Physiol. 2002;131B:733–747. Virtue P, Nichols PD, Nicol S, Hosie G. Reproductive tradeoff in male Antarctic krill. Mar Biol. 1996;126:521–527). Moreover, Southern Ocean krill are highly perishable because of autolytic enzymes (Kawamura Y, Nishimura K, Igarashi S, Doi E, Yonezawa D. Characteristics of autolysis of Antarctic krill. Agric Biol Chem. 1981;45:93–100), and the highly unsaturated fatty acids are prone to rapid oxidation (Kolakowska A, Kwiatkowska-Zienkiewicz L. Effect of fish lipid isolation technique on lipid oxidation. Rybactwo Morskie Technol Zywnosci. 1991;143:101–110.).
