O/t 9/11
I remember sitting in a command post in Phoenix 6 years ago today while i was an FBI agent. Hani Hanjour, the ******* who flew the plane into the pentagon, was a student at the University of Arizona and we were receiving leads from New York and DC a mile a minute. We worked 16 hour days, 7 days a week through Thanksgiving that year. I was so pissed that I was no longer in the Marines - I wanted/still want to kill all those middle-eastern fuc@@@@%U&%$*!
Lets not forget what was done to us on American soil!

Reason: I used the generic term middle-easterners - I mean the muslim fundamentalists not everybody else!

I felt the same way.
My heart still races when I converse on this subject.
Incidentally.....this day has much added significance for me.....I was wounded on 9/11 at 1:40 am in 1966 so fallen comrades here and during this night in VN fills me with emotion in which words are just to inadequate to describe it all.
I will be having a stiff shot of Cuervo this evening (after my workout) to salute all the victims.
Time to sign off here because we all have such strong opinions and I don't want to start rambling.
A great day of remberence to all.

I remember it was also a Tuesday morning and I was at the gym doing Back and Bis. A buddy who was a pilot with Continental got a cell call from his wife and she told him that a plane just hit one of the towers, then another. Horrible and hopeless feeling. People were freaking out.
Another good friend of mine who works out with me is a FBI agent for 15 years, his hours are very long since 9/11.

And I feel that we Americans have already forgotten this attack on our country, this should be declared a national holiday in my mind out of respect of all the innocent people that were mamed and killed in this freaken sneak attack.

I hope you are not still in the FBI with that attitude. I hope you wanted to kill all the blonde hair blue eyed FUC@@@%U$*! when MCveigh bombed the FBI building in Ok. Also before you start I served my COUNTRY in the USN as a Senior Chief Petty Officer, was part of every "Conflict" from 80' until I got out and have a chest full of ribbons and medals to show for it, and currently work for government but it attitudes like that will continue to cycle us through the same madness that we are in right now, the culprits aren't those middle-eastern F%*#&$#*KS but a select minority of buttholes that I agree should be done away with in the most painful manner possible.

I worked for Delta Air Lines at the time, and spent most of the day in Flight Control from the time it unfolded. I was searching for Brett, one of our pilots to ask him some technical info related to a specific aircraft that morning. Another Pilot Instructor said, "You know Brett (Brett is a kinda wired-up guy), he's ranting on about some plane hitting the World Trade Center." We both shrugged & laughed, and I went back to my desk. Moments later we'd found out Brett was quite sane that morning. Our General Office HQ was barricaded, and it seemed like forever, waiting to contact, account for, and land all of our planes. It was a long day....but we were the lucky ones.
I took my middle child to get his driver's license today. It was a bittersweet moment as I signed my name......and filled in the date. I couldn't forget 9/11 if I tried.........and I think this is a good thing.

I'm going to respectfully disagree with you. Diplomacy and the like will only get you so far when your enemy(the people NM was referring to) is hell bent on destruction of your culture and way of life. With those types, especially ones who ground their lunacy in religious zealotry, only understand one thing, and that's violence. Unfortunately for us that is type of enemy we now face, and will continue to face.

I want to point out that NM edited his original post to clarify that he was referring to Islamic Fundies, not middle easterners in general.

A "select minority?" The Iranian government are financial supporters of terrorism and send money and arms to the Taliban. The Syrian government supports terror. Palestine supports terrorism. Many Saudis send millions of dollars in support of our enemies. Not all Arabs want to kill us but most hate us and they would not care if we were all dead. And, they would be happy to kill us by proxy, in order to say their hands are clean. This doesn't even count the Madrassas in Pakistan and in other countries that breed terrorists.

Hey guys, seriously! I have strong feeling on this issue, and many of you probably have an idea of which way I lean. I was actually taking the high road by leaving my post totally non-political...even though the opening post is one that a MOD would normally caution someone on.
Let's not ruin a day of memory like this with a bunch of bull**** being slung left and right, k?

It shouldn't be locked. Seems it's always the fundamentals that go on a rampage of outrage over the stupidest things; a cartoon, a woman exposed an elbow in public and other bilge.
It should be mind boggling that a group has caused the entire PLANET to take astonishly costly security measures; airports etc.
It's evident that the millions of supposedly moderates have shown NO interest in taking back their religion; thus, imho showing tacit approval of any terrorism. Instead, it's usually a husband or brother slouched on a couch, in Western clothing whining 'We're not terrorists' & and any women off to the side bundled up like bumps on a log. I've seen it. I've yet to see any anti terrorism, pro democracy, pro Western (USA, UK, European etc.) rallies and protests.
I can only hope there's another Bill Gates or someone out there who can get us off oil so we can say Keep your ^%$! sand, oil, and 6th century mentality; we don't need you.
Outrageous? Probably, but again, we deserve the right to experess outraged just as well.

I'm not commenting here to argue or politicize with anyone on their views but here's my take on it.
This is very emotional subject for all of us and we all will express it in our own way.
I think other responses here are correct (and I agree) that referring to the 'cuprits' as a 'minority' is gross understatement.
What I think is most important to remember that all the diplomacy in the cannot overcome, or negotiate with, religious dogma.
One cannot use logic or rationale to deal with religious dogma.
That mentality does not understand logic, reason, rationale....or diplomacy.
Now, I'm not saying I have answers to any of this......but I do have a boatload of questions you can be sure.
That's just how I measure it.
NM123 and redweston....I thank you for your thoughts.
The funny part is, after 9/11 occurred, it took me about 3 weeks to figure out why that date was so reminiscent.
Then it it hit me.....I went to my military scrapbook and found the telegram they sent to my parents and there it was.
Well, I tried to choose my words carefully.
Have a good evening all.
Respectfully....of course.

Emotions are running hot on this topic- thank God! If they weren't, I'd be worried. We were attacked! -and the bastard most responsible, IS STILL out there! 6 years later. Personally, that makes me furious. I'm here at my security post- I won't say where- watching... Hello Islamic fundies? The moderates should be ashamed of themselves for doing next to nothing. We have NOT forgotten!

I remember the day, I was on funeral detail in Mass. 45 day detail and we were performing funeral services for one or two Veterans everyday. The majority were WWII vets. Anyway, after the 1st two hit the towers and then the 3rd hit the Pentagon, one of the Vets at the cemetary mumbled something about Pearl Harbor. I still remember his words, his face, his tone. I regret that I see this as a war that will last well past my retirement. I pray it is something my children will not have to do. Those of you that have seen the face of war know what I mean. God Bless all who have made the ultimate sacrifice and my brothers and sisters still fighting and those recovering from wounds in hospitals across the world.

I agree, the 'moderates' could have chimed in loudly and possibly done some
good by collectively expressing their disdain for 911 incident....especially the ones here in the US.
If they did chime in it wasn't loud enough for me to hear and I don't live in a bubble.
A great day to all.

Come on now, it was obvious that he didn't mean "ALL" middle easterners! He was talking about 9/11 and those involved with the belief that all infidels, non believers, deserve to be dead! Man, woman, child. And that is what they did on 9/11.
These fundamentalist negotiate by cutting off heads and have been doing it that way for centuries. "Madness"? That is an opinion of yours and you have a right to express it, yet it is only your perception. There are other perceptions out there as well that differ. Heads will roll as long as we are weak. ed

New Mexico - Thanks for amending your post. From what I've read from you, your original surprised me greatly.
Wayne, I have to agree with you - attempting to use diplomacy against religious dogma is akin to pissing in the wind. But let's not forget that a lot of zealots use the cover of religious dogma as a front for acquisition of power. What's unfortunate is that in using religion as a method to acquire power, one cannot slip from behind the mask easily - particularly when one's Machiavellian dreams have been achieved. When one uses religion as a tool, the tool remains in one's hand until the endgame is realized. Unfortunately, the "My God is better than your God" argument whether for dogmatic reasons or for the acquisition of power only has one ending.
As much as we call upon the moderates to voice their concern - when have they ever? During 9/11, I was living as a private citizen in a country that was 90% Muslim. Many Muslim friends would confide in me their condolences and anger at what extremists had done - but private conversations do not result in extremists being held accountable for their actions in a public forum. How many of us who consider ourselves moderates have ever publicly raised our voice against extremism in our own countries?
I don't think there is any disagreement that extremists who use terror as a means to push their agenda have to be stopped. Certainly there is disagreement on the methods to achieve that end. But on that front, discourse is a meaningful exercise. However, when we lapse into generalities we evoke the tribal emotions that we as humans carry deeply, making enemies of those who would not otherwise be. We need to be cautious with the words we choose.
