He already does it a couple times a week just for fun, nothing serious. He's 13, and going to turn 14 in December.
He started when his class did a "weight training" class for about a month in gym.
He weights about 110lbs.
I think he's pretty strong for his age and size. His favorite is bench press of course. He can already do 95lbs 10 times. Can probably bench his own weight.
What do you guys think? Should he start now, or wait until high school?

As long as he is smart it is fine to train at that age. 2 things though. His form should be very good, and he has to make sure that he doesn't over train, if he limits working out to 4 one hour sessions per week, and has good form he will be fine.

I think that starting at a young age like 13 is the perfect age to get him started. Just make sure that he starts out just like anyone else, with just the basics, and moving up gradually as he gets more interested and aware of weightroom safety. If not the most important thing though, make sure that he enjoys it. I mean, in my opinion at least, the most important thing is that he wants to do it, and knows all the benefits that weightlifting have with it. Good luck!

-Bench- 115 goal 135

Thanks for the comments guys.
The thing is that he's a little dude still. He's only about 5'1"-5'3", and he's actually 105lbs(imagine malcolm from malcolm in the middle from the first few years). And he's probably going through puberty. How's that going to affect him?
Oh yeah, and he wanted to know if he's strong at his age and size, which I think he is.

I like encouraging my brothers to go out for sports and being in good shape since it's something I really didn't do when I was younger. Played a little basketball and did a little wrestling in HS, but we moved a lot back then so I really didn't get a chance. So it's all up to them then.
