How much should I spend on an interview suit? New at this...

So this will be my first suit.

I'm graduating college in about a month, and the interviews are coming. How much should I spend?

I don't want to show up with some piece of junk suit, because they will notice.

What brand.....and what kind of price should I be willing to pay for an above-decent suit? Thanks

Look in a mirror - if it looks good - get it.

The interviewer won't be bothered as long as you don't look shabby.

Its what you have to say, and your qualifications that they want.

Go to a decent shop/department store near you, tell them what you need and why and ask their advice.

I think it depends on your industry. I imagine that most entry-level jobs will not require that you show up in a snazzy suit everyday, but that being said, you need to convey that you are taking the interview seriously.

So what i would do is buy a low-medium end suit in a department store, but also make sure that it fits well, that you have good, clean shoes. That your hair is cut and tidy and also that your nails and hands are clean. I think that stuff is more important than a designer suit.

$200 for wool at a dept store or Men's Wearhouse on sale.

Make sure they tailor it for you. The $200 will usually not include the tailoring. The fit of the suit is the primary factor in how it looks. If the sales staff is not professional and confident about fitting you then look elsewhere.

Spent $399 on my first suit, still have it today. Once you get the job and you still require to wear a suit, upgrade after your second or third salary comes in.

Austin Reed suits at Dillards. Usually are about $500, but they are perfect for the weightlifters build. I have difficulty bending my arm in most suits bc they are too tight around the bicep region and I only have 17s on a good day. The Austin Reeds have more room and come in an Athletic cut, so the drop ratio is better.

Just make sure you go to a place that will have a man helping you out. If they tailor the suits there, then you prob found a good place. Maybe around $350 - $400 - but hey, If it looks really good ..... buy it no matter if it is $100 If going on good interviews or "high class" interviews... they should know the difference - but I wouldn't think it is a big deal depending on the job you are going for. Good luck!

Avoid light colours and pinstripes with your first suit. I spent 300 quid on my first.

You can goto a place like Burlington Coat Factory or K&J Men and get a nice suit for $200, I own 3 suits now, but have probably bought 10 suits in my life time, and I doubt i've spent over $2000 on all of them.

I think oine of the most important things is making sure it is tailored specifically to your body. Makes the suit look a lot better then off the rack

My advice to is to wear leather pants and a mesh shirt.
All you need after that is a little white clip on tie and you are set.

Suits are going out the door my friend. Just dress really nice without wearing a tie. Get a pair of nice jeans, a button down shirt and some dress shoes. You will stand out from all of the tools wearing a suit.

And if you're really feeling brave... bring a fishing pole with you and suggest you conduct the interview on the lake.

I got a Nautica suit for around $400 dollars at Dillards. This also included Nautica tie and shirt that matched the baby blue pinstripes. Look for sales or go to ExpressMen or JCrew. They have some cool suits with shirts and ties you can customize your suit with.

    Suited up

Try " Value Village " on the corner of Bellaire and Hillcroft. Their jackets and suits for men are very good. They just need to be dry cleaned. They are very cheap, too, since it is a second hand store, but a very good one.

What brand.....and what kind of price should I be willing to pay for an above-decent suit? Thanks
Pretty sad you don't even own a suit at your age........

The last suit I bought was at Dillards. It is a Ralph Lauren and it was $400 including tailoring. I would reccomend you buy a solid gray or blue suit. They say black ones are not the best for interviews.

I can't fathom having a job where a suit would be needed. Money isn't that important.

A nice suit will make all the difference in the world. Do NOT buy a jacket and pants separate, that looks like something guys wear for fraternity events.

A department store or a store like Men's Warehouse is fine for your first suit....and, for an interview you should wear a white shirt, and a mostly solid blue or red tie. Shoes are also important, buy dress shoes, wearing your "going out" black sketchers will ruin the entire outfit.
