Keeping bananas from spoiling

Someone told me that I should keep bananas in the refrigerator so they spoil. Is this true and does anyone else do this?

Freeze em! And hell dont even bother letting them thaw, eat em frozen! yUM!

Freeze them? What happens to bananas if you freeze them and do you leave the peels on them?

Peel them and dump them in a freezer bag. They don't stick together, you can break them up in the bag after they are frozen (for easy dumping in the blender!) and they've never turned brown unless I forget about them for far, far too long.

Yup, you can do this. The peels might turn brown, but the inside will stay nice and ripe for ~2 weeks.

If you're looking to keep them for the short-term (i.e. a week or so), bananas fare very well in the fridge. If the skin starts to go black, don't worry, it's just reacting to the temperature. The flesh will still be fine.

In fact, I just had some natural granola with a fridge-fresh banana! Mmm.

Bananas release an enzyme that causes them (or other fruit near them) to ripen at a fast rate. Putting them in any closed container will escalate the process. The cooler temps probably delay this process a bit. The freezer sounds like a great idea.
