Someone told me that I should keep bananas in the refrigerator so they spoil. Is this true and does anyone else do this?

Bananas release an enzyme that causes them (or other fruit near them) to ripen at a fast rate. Putting them in any closed container will escalate the process. The cooler temps probably delay this process a bit. The freezer sounds like a great idea.
The internet is equalled only by public education and network news in its ability to spread disinformation at an alarming rate...
