i am training to run faster and harder and i have a 40lb weighted vest that i will be using to run with (30 min cardio 3 days a week) i will work my way up with the weight on the vest so i dont hurt myself.
i have been told in increases speed strength power, vertical jump, and lowers 40 yard dash timing.
i would like to kno if anyone uses this type of vest if so has it worked for you?
or if any1 knows if running and training with this vest will increases speed strength power, vertical jump, and lowers 40 yard dash timing.?
reps will be given for good info
thanks

Hi Bosco,
I've not heard of anyone training with these vests on. But on my Exercise Instructors course we had to wear one for a day, to simulate what it was like to be overweight, and to experience how much it slowed us down and tired us out.
I could see how it could improve your performance, in say running events (not weight training) if you trained with it. You'd be flying when you got the thing off!
Interesting topic, thanks.

I found an article on runnersworld.com. It seems like it's well researched and confirms your theory that it will improve your speed for short runs.
There is an elite runner who works with me and we chat about training all the time so i'll ask him if he's tried this tomorrow.

I would be a bit concerned about excess stress on your joints...

So slightly different, but I do know that one should NOT run/walk/train with ankle weights. It slows you down, it doesn't increase the calorie burn, and it only SEEMS that you are running faster/jumping higher when you take them off - it hasn't contributed to training in any constructive way.
I would think the vest would work similarly.
So you don't say: are you running outside? or on a treadmill? If it's on a treadmill, I just read an article in Fitness regarding how to increase running speed.
Good Luck Regardless.Elizabeth
