Will i get Loose skin?

http://bodyspace.bodybuilding.com/bujj/

hi guys,

i have recently decided to take care of my body after years of abuse. since the beginning of september 2007 i have started to work hard trying to lose fat through diet, lifting and cardio.

i would just like to know if when i get rid of a lot of my fat;

will i have a lot of loose skin?
i am 27 and was wondering if it was too late for my skin to tighten back up?
what would the best way be for me to ensure my skin gets as tight as it can.

please take a moment to look at my picture and all comments welcome...

You are roughly the same size I was before 100 lbs. of loss. I have some skin issues...I did the weight loss dumb in the beginning (very fast loss) which may have contributed.

Majority of people find that YES they get it but doing cardio gets rid of it thats somewhere between 80-90% of people, others have to get surgery
Wont know till you try it, good luck with it

I am exact same height as you, started at 258 lbs on May 13th, and am down to 213 right now. I've had no loose skin issues whatsoever. Not to say that it won't be the case if I lose another 25-30 lbs. The key is to lose it over a period of time so your skin has time to adjust.

being the fat **** that i am, i am expecting to have the skin problem too. This is because i'm over 320lbs and my belly hangs down as well. Looks horrible thats why i want to lose weight. I was wondering fi, after i have lost some weight, if i start doing sit ups whether that may have an effect on the skin?

Lew

P.S Newbie questions: How does cardio help with hanging skin? I can see swimming may help the skin but anything else? As theres no fat there to be lost? or is there... oh well, i don't know..... i'm lost know....

situps will work your muscles FIRST

i used to do tons of weighted situps (45plate) until my abs stuck out further than my chest

that was a look i DID NOT want so i cut back

but you have a larger chance of loose skin if you cut weight drastically
if its a slow loss, then the skin will naturally tighten as time goes by

Through the evidence posted on this site, it is safe to say that fast fat loss, as in more than 2 lbs of tissue a week, will make the odds of you having loose skin much greater.

Shoot for 1 lbs. of fat loss a week. Some people do not feel like that is fast enough... If you have seen one pound of fat layed out on a table, you may change your mind. 1 lbs of fat is ALOT.

Keep your nutrition clean, be patient and smart, continue to lift heavy weights while dieting. That is the best advice and surest answer you can hope to find.

Even when you get down to a "normal" weight if you still have some "loose skin" keep losing. It's most likely due to having residual pockets of fat still left. Pinch the skin where it is "loose" I guarantee you get more than just skin in between your fingers. Most people stop losing because they think they are done when they dont realize they are just 10-20 pounds away from their goals.

The reason why rapid fat loss causes "loose skin" is because you lose alot of muscle in the process and when you get down to your "normal" weight you are actually still 10-20 pounds above it because you have lose so much muscle. That is why slow weight loss which preserves or even builds muscle if more beneficial evne if it takes longer, because at the end of the road when you are at your "normal" weight you wont have "loose skin." (hehe @ use of quotes )
