also, who runs on an empty stomach in the morning and has gotten good results? I heard in order for the body to use muscle, the intensity of the cardio would have to be EXTREME.

Maybe only 1 x 30 at the opposite end of the day to wherever you do your weights.
There's a million opinions on this.
Clean diet, reduced food intake under maintanance level, regular cardio and lots of water - usually provides good result.
Hit it to hard and you increase the risk of lean muscle burn off.6'2" 220lbs
