Trying My Own
Hey all...I've been reading everyone else's journal and I post every once in a while and have decided that I need to start one of my own. It's so nice to have a support group when you think you don't have anyone!!
Currently, I am not training for a show or anything like that...I competed in my first one last November in figure...it was a blast and I want to do another, but haven't found one I want to do yet...and don't necessarily have the drive to do one right at this moment. So, I'm kind of lacsadasically doing workouts, but feel like I need a little motivation and thought this might do the job for me.
So, here I am!
Thanks for reading!

Thanks for the welcome girls! Let me just tell you how BEAUTIFUL it is here and how much I do NOT want to be working today!!! We've had some cold and rainy days lately, but today is sunny and beautiful! Yesterday was too, I worked and then lifted shoulders and abs, then ran outside. I usually hate running outside because I get tired uqickly and then I don't want to do it anymore...I'd rather run on the treadmill, but last night was different. I ran in this little neighborhood near my house that is like the "Wysteria Lane" of my town. It was nice...tons of people out walking and stuff cause of the weather. My boyfriend recently moved to Florida (in February) and I haven't seen him since he moved, but I'm making a trip next month...so you know it's go time now. I have a little bit of motivation now to workout so I can look good when I see him. So, I'm pretty excited about that!
Hope you're all having a wonderful day...

I do weight training 5 days a week, and then cardio 5-6 days. Usually I run on the treadmill...sometimes interval training, sometimes just run for time...then do the elliptical. I try to average about an hour a day.
Last night for shoulders, I did:
DB Press
15lbs 12X
20 lbs 12X
20 lbs 10X
15 lbs 15X
DB Lateral Raises
10lbs 12X
10 lbs 12X
10 lbs 10X
5 lbs 15X
DB Front Raises
10 lbs 15X (4 sets)
DB Rev Flyes
5lbs 12-15X (4 sets)
Then I ran outside for an hour.
Oh yeah, and then for abs I did
Hanging leg raises 4 sets of 15-20
Cable Rope Crunches
40 lbs 15X (2 sets)
60 lbs 15X (2 sets)

What part of Virginia are you from? I live in Woodbridge, when I'm not in Savannah. :-) Went to high school in Alexandria.
Welcome to the wonderful world of journaling! You work out the same as me! It's nice to see another 5-6 day a weeker for cardio on these boards, I'll have to camp out in your journal to read up on your workouts. :-)
hope your day went well!
Sunny
PS -- where in Florida did your boytoy move? my ex is from daytona-ish, near St. Augustine.

I'm in Lynchburg...the most boring place in Virginia to be, I think. Jeff moved right outside of Orlando...I'll be following him soon. Hope to be down there by the end of summer or so. I CANNOT WAIT!!!
yes, it is nice to see someone else do cardio like me as well. There are times when I know I overdo it, but I really wanna lose about 10 more pounds or so and I think I'll be happy...and I think I'll do that if I keep my cardio up!!! Thanks for writing!!!

Thank you very much!!!
I am thinking that I need to incorporate more hiit...but I don't know a lot about it...like what do you do?
I do intervals sometimes on the treadmill, like run for 1:30, rest on the sides for :30, and increase my speed by .2 everytime.
Is this good? Bad? Otherwise???
Thanks!

Hiit is when you run all out for 30sec to 1min or sometimes I do 2mins...then reduce back down at a moderate jog for same amount of time then do it all over. You should be completely exhausted from it. I do hiit on the stair master too gosh what a workout that is usually dripping sweat all over the machine. Its great for not burning to much muscle since hiit is only done for 20min sessions. In the long run you benefit from it since it revs up your system for the whole day.
I do have a question though why so much cardio? if your not training for a show in a few weeks.

Why so much cardio? I dunno. I think it's a mental thing more than anything...I have a few friends that I do cardio with...one of which is bulemic, so sometimes that starts to mess with my mind, I think. Plus I work at a gym and seeing people all day...it gets to me. I feel much better when I do cardio, so I guess that's why I do so much...don't feel so fat. But, I'd also like to drop about 10 pounds...and about 3-4% bodyfat, so I feel like cardio will help me do that...you know what I mean?

Yeah, that helps a lot, V, thanks a bundle! I hear that it's the best way to burn the most fat, by doing hiit, have you noticed it working well for you? Congrats on your weight loss, that is incredible!!! Good for you girl!

The reason I asked was since cardio burns muscle and fat doing that much will undo alot of your heavy weight lifting. More muscles equals higher metabolism and burns fat all day long not just during the time doing it. I noticed that when I upped the weight lifting to heavy and very intense then I saw dramatic results. When I did insane amounts of cardio with the weight lifting I did see some results but not what I have now by changing. I have gained some major results in the past 8months and doing to limited cardio has helped that and also diet. Trust me I know from experience. also What is your diet like?

Thanks SV, I appreciate it! Do you stop every once in a while and check your heart rate or what do you do to keep track? Some of our equipment here has heart rate testers on them, but I really don't think they're very accurate at all....
suggestions?

My diet is a tough thing for me...even when I trained for my show, I had doubts about what I was being told to do...and don't really think I was show ready on that day, honestly.
My diet right now is not very strict...I am pretyt lax, but not necessarily on junk food or anything like that, I just know I don't eat enough. Let's see...
today I've had:
8:30 3 fat burners with large glass of water
10:00 3.5 oz baked chicken, Diet Dr. Pepper
12:00 3.5 oz baked chicken
Protein shake (2 scoops whey protein, water, 2 oz strawberry flavor)
I know that I need to have carbs, but they scare me to death...I try to incorporate sweet potatoes, oatmeal and all that, but I feel like I hold more when I eat them....
there's my honest answer about diet...it's so funny because I work at a gym and I can tell people all day long what they're supposed to do, but I cannot do them myself....FRUSTRATING!

L!!!! 3 fat burners a day!!! I wouldn't suggest that. That can be very bad for you...that concerns me a lot!! The ONLY time I am popping 3 thermos is when I am just about to compete and so low carbs. You NEED carbs- 79 to at least function normally. You need to cycle thermos so you don't get used to them as well, but 3 thermos is a lot. You might want to change your diet b/c you shouldn't need 3 thermos for your regular diet. Add some fruits, vegs, oats, brown rice, yams...possibly some diary!!
The heart rate I figured out what it should be and then checked the speed I am at when I hit it and stay within a range while doing hiit- I always do hiit on the efx at the gym; sprints outside. Obviously I just go as fast as possible while I'm oustide sprinting...hee hee. The reason this is so successful is due to sports- when you are active in a sport you aren't at a moderate speed the wholel time. An example is soccer- if you are a forward when the defense has the ball you are moderate waiting for the ball to be passed to you but if the ball is passed to you then you are full force towards that goal....etc... Sprints are the best for fat loss.

SV, thanks for the advice...
I know 3 fat burners are a lot...I just get such a rush out of that feeling!!! Is there anything wrong with keeping the carbs to the morning time or like eating them all before a certain time of day? What if my workouts are around 5:00 everyday?

Let me just tell you first that I love San Tight...that's what I took before my show I did. Right now, I take Thermogen II softgels...they're by Sci-Fit. I love them too!~
My boyfriend takes Lipo 6 and seems to really like them...I haven't actually tried them myself. Let me know what you think of Tight...

xenadrine NRG - greatest thermo ever!
I suggest having carbs early in the day then after your workouts. You need to give your body those carbs for energy. Check out my diet for these next 2 weeks- I workout at 6pm so this gives you a basic idea of when carbs need to be added in.
V and L- Please do not take so many thermos- you ladies are worrying me!

I did look at your diet and was thinking of trying to fit it to me and my days. So, are you bulking right now? Like if I adapt something like that to me, then will I bulk up do you think?
And yes, ma'am...I will cut back on the thermos!! I promise

SV...also, when you do sprints outside, what's your plan? Time? Number of sprints for a specified distance?
I'm anxious to workout today for some reason...moreso than normal. I get off at 4, then tan, then workout around 4:30 or 5:00...then running after that. Oh, and I get my bodyfat checked today, so we'll see how that goes...I'm anxious and nervous all at the same time!!!
