dumbell press < barbell bench press?

Is it typically normal to do less weight total (both arms) using dumbells than with a barbell when doing bench presses?

I believe so. It takes more to balance each weight, and if one side is weaker than the other you'll notice with dumbells. Whereas when you are using a barbell your otherside compensates for the weakness of the other. And you can add twists to the dumbell press that makes it involve more muscles, making it harder.

Of course, you have to stablize each are indivually and thus cannot used the union of both to help yourself. I workout with about 60lbs dumbells, and bench about 205, completely normal

actually, generally, when working out with a barbell, the arm that is slower going up is actually stronger, it compensates for the other by taking more weight.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
