incorrect, its actually the opposite, many people should obtain their vitamins from fruits, and vegetables. People with certain digestive disorders, pregnant women, eating disorders, and a few other categories may benefit from vitamins. If you have a ****ty diet, then maybe id consider it. But if you do why are you bodybuilding in the first place.

Excellent information. While I eat pretty healthy, I still take Centrum Performance multi-vitamin. I doubt I'm overdosing on anything important and it adds a sense of (false perhaps) completeness, just in case, y'know. Good article.

I was just reading this article about vitamins and exercise/strength training, and this one refers to diabetics as well--if anyone's interested, it's at the Mindful Muscle website blog.

vitamin D at #4? your body produces at or near 100% of daily recommended value by just 5minutes of sunlight exposure.. so anything with advertised "Vitamin D" is practically worthless unless you just refuse to see the sun for days on end.

Very few standard vitamins are harmful until you take massive mega doses. Likek 300,000 IU's on some of them like Vitamin C. Off beat ones like acia or gogi juice and so on I can't vouch for.

Vitamins have far larger percentages over the FDA recomended because it's hard for your body to digest and take advantage of the vitamins in a pill form. This means they usually have to go several to many times over the FDA in order to come close to meeting it.

The best way to take vitamins is seperatly. Such as a vitamin A pill, A vitamin C pill, and so on.

Most of the 10 vitamins listed in the original post are all part of the essential B eight family. That means there are eight different types of B vitamins that you need. You can get them all cheaply through one B complex Vitamin.

The reason you should take vitamins is that you will never get all the nessasary vitamins every day naturally. You would have to eat to much specific food. And if your cutting, forget about it. You won't even make a dent.

If your worried about taking to much, then look up the facts on each on vitamin on wikipedia. That's what I did before I first started taking vitamins regularly.

The website puritan has vitamins at super cheap prices. I get 95% of mine through their.

The only time you shouldn't take lot's of vitamins is if you have prostate cancer. However, if you don't have it, but are prone to it, their are many vitamins to help prevent it.

You should take the following every day at least.

A, B Complex, C, D3, E, Plus something for omega 3 fats. That is the at least list from just off the top of my head.

I take over 20 different vitamins a day, because it is of course safe to get your vitamins, and I'd rather be safe then sorry. I don't know about you, but I'm living to 1,000.

Finally, any one who tells you you shouldn't take the standard essential vitamins to at least the full FDA value daily because it's unsafe is a moron who you shouldn't listen too. It doesn't even make any sense on a two year old leval. It would be like me telling you that I have a study that says water, food, air, and sex is bad for you. Menwhile we all know that you need all four daily to live.

    Peace.

PS. My grandfather who lived clean his whole life was very healthy until 93 when he died of pancreatic cancer. The doctor told him had he taken Vitamin K daily, it would have reduced his risk of getting pancreatic cancer by a large percent. Just saying.
When you have time, would you be able to list the 20 vitams you take daily?

    Thanks

    The Importance of Vitamins

Vitamins are helpful in processing carbohydrates, proteins, and fat. As your body is stressed more with body building, your body requires more vitamins to build muscle mass.
Our body does not produce vitamins except for vitamin D. you should get the required vitamins necessary for the body from food and health supplements . The vitamins do not supply energy or add to body mass but are involved in several functions such as function of central nervous system, bone metabolism, immune function, hemoglobin production, and energy metabolism.

You aren't going to get cancer from taking vitamins... you can get too much of them though.. different vitamins will do different things if you OD, but it will first try to flush them out (evident in very dark yellow, sometimes thick and strong smelling urine). Your body knows what you need and what to flush, but your liver and kidneys will be working way overtime to process it all. Try cutting back on some of the supps that have mostly the same ingredients, you might just be waisting your money. Also maybe look into adding milk thistle to your supps to keep your liver in good health.

They all are important and serve one purpose or another in basic bodily function. Some people don't take them because they don't feel any better right off the bat, but over time you will notice the change. Just taking a good quality multi-vit is better than nothing at all, and they are usually pretty cheap.

That is just your body flushing out the excess. Mine does that all the time. Just make sure you are staying well hydrated

    Hmmmmm.

Your article is great from the standpoint that it explains the importance of these vitamins. However, I've been on the fence for a while now, as to whether I am getting everything I need from my now super-healthy diet, already.
Hell, for 20+ years, I ate absolutely horrible garbage, and yet I managed to survive. Okay, so I certainly had some health issues, and generally felt like crap.... but just surviving on that garbage says something. Surely my body must be getting WAY more of it's healthy requirements now, than before. Although I'm not saying there is no room for improvement. (see my recent post on juicing machines... I know I should eat more veggies)

And something else to consider.... Now, each vitamin is different in this regard, but while some vitamins can be overdosed, and dealt with quite easily by the body, others can't. The latter, can do more harm than good, if your getting too much of them.

To recap; Not getting enough of the proper vitamins and mineral can be detrimental. Getting too much of certain vitamins and minerals can also be detrimental.

Wish I knew the perfect balance....
