    Question Unmanageable and inanimate hair

    Hi everybody.

    I work out 5 days a week sometimes twice a day. My body looks better and batter but my hair is terrible: unmanageable and inanimate.
    I keep low fat diet: 20 grams per day and I take flaxseed oil and fish oil regularly. So I don’ think it is because of fat shortage. I wash my hair every day with “every day shampoo”, although my hair master said me do not do it so frequently,, but I sweat a lot in the gym and my hair is still oily if I just rinse it.

    Please share with me what do you use for every day hair care? What treatment products help you to have shiny and healthy hair?

    I would try conditioner. I've used it every day since I was in grade school. I have healthy hair, and except for some hairspray, I rarely use anything else on it. Without the conditioner, my hair will be dry and lifeless.

    try using a light moisturizing shampoo and conditioner each day, i do that plus one day with a deep conditioner and one day with a clarifying shampoo

    I know you said you supplement with flax and fish oil, which is great. But you are not getting enough fat! Try going to 30 or 40 grams/day.

    The same thing happened to me about a year ago when I went to a super low-fat diet. After much reading and research, I came to the conclusion that my diet, however healthy it was, lacked essential fats. When I added them, my problem was solved.

    It really depends on your body size and composition, but I think 20g is no where near enough!! I'm 5'11 145 lbs, and I get in around 45-65g fat/day (a lot of which is from supplements too).

    I don't think 20g. of fat is enough. If you're eating 2000 calories a day, that's only 9% !! Still only 12% if you're eating 1500 calories. I would definetly say that's not enough.

    I'm new here, and I'm no expert on diet, so I'll leave that to the people who know about that. But I do know that washing your hair that frequently will dry it out and leave it unmanageable. If you absolutely have to wash it every day, try rinsing it with white vinegar rather than shampoo. It will help clarify your scalp and prevent it from feeling oily. I had braids in my hair all summer one year and this really helped, because shampooing it often wasn't an option. Hope this helps.

    some suggestions

    When you say your hair is unmanageable and unruly what exactly do you mean. Is it frizzy, wavy, etc? I have wavy kind of frizzy hair that tends to be dry and I use a shine pomade and Frizz-Ease Secret Weapon Finish and Shine by John Frieda. I apply it starting at the bottom and putting a small amount at the roots so it doesn't look greasy. It really helps my hair lay strait, takes away the frizz and adds shine to it.

    I wash my hair every day with moisture rich shampoo and conditioner and also use a leave in conditioner. Great hair is all about the prodcut you put into it after it is washed. Granted your diet is important too and I would have to tend to agree that 20 grams is a bit low on fat consumption.

    Make sure you are also using proper hair ties to pull it back. Only use cloth scrunchies and bands. Don't use rubber bands or anything with metal on it. This will break your hair off. Another idea to try instead of washing your hair after each gym visti, especially if you are short on time is throwing your hair up into a bun, if your hair is long enough.

    A great bun starts with a sock. No that isn't a typo. Take a sock, preferably one about 8 inches long and cut the toes out. Then roll the sock up so it looks like a donut. Pull your hair back into a pony tail and put the donut sock onto your pony tail. flip your head over and spread your hair over the donut to cover it all up. Take another hair tie and lay it over to secure the hair. You can either leave the hair fringes out for a funky look or wrap the loose ends around and secure with bobby pins.

    Thank you for replies. I am definitely going to increase “good” fats intake.
    I try to keep very lo fat level because I do not like cardio and I thought it helps me to keep my bodyfat low.
    I am going to buy moisturizing shampoo, conditioner and leave in conditioner for treatment.

    TO: Angela R – I thought only in Russia girls use socks pull hair it back. Nicely surprised!

    sock in hair

    I am a US Marine and I use it daily because our hair has to be up and you are not allowed to see any pins or hair ties. This works best for me and I know a lot of other WM's that use it as well.
