I was talking to a pler (irl) about my openers etc for my meet and stuff, and he sorta got me thinking when he was saying that in the 165 class, (older divisions mostly [not mine]) there would be alot of people who look normal, and are gonna be strong as ****
Why 165? is that like for the average (5'8'-5'10) place to be to have a good ratio of muscle mass to amount of muscle you are able to recruit? ( i know this sounds sorta stupid, and i cant really phrase it right, but bear with me)

165 isn't a cake walk they have the best relative strength. A 165'er owns the highest total to bodyweight ratio.

165-198 are usually the toughest weight classes because that is where most of the lifters are. Go to a gym, and you'll see WAY MORE people who way between 150-200 lbs than 100-150, 200-250, 250-300. That's just the top of the bell curve when it comes to weight.

If I remember correctly, you put on your weight relatively fast. I'm in the process of doing the same thing right now...so I have to ask, was it worth it? Did you gain a ****-ton of strength solely from the weight gain? Would you ever shed your extra BF be able to compete at 242?
I want the l33t strength, but I kinda want to be around 13-14% BF too

yeah...well i had let my weight come up slowly from 235 to about 255-260 over the course of about 6 months, that wasn't so hard.
But in August 08 I decided to move up to 275s, and weighed in at 273lbs for the October 25th ST Push/Pull.
I got huuuuge gains out of it, but yeah I'm pretty fat right now, I kinda want to lean out drop my BF% a few points y'know, but i don't want to sacrifice size or strength to it b/c it'll affect how my gear fits, and I don't see a time this year where I can drop a bit and resize my gear cause I need to train in it for competitions.
I don't think I'm ever gonna drop down again for competition purposes, in fact I'm thinking of moving up to 308s...but probably not.Last edited by isaku900; 01-20-2009 at 08:05 AM.

In the same line of question than the OP, I am 208 LBS and 5'8'' and have a really heavy bone density (that why i am so heavy for my height). I have have a BF of 15-18% (approximately). Normally people think I am 170-180 LBS max.
Which class in PL should I aim for ?
I seem to be a little screw because of my weights right now, I don't plan to compete in the near futur but any advice will be great.Check my workout journal at: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=114223331

well, you're also a bit fat. Don't complain about bone density until your 10-12% bf. I can understand having 15-18% BF at a heavier total BW, but having 18% BF at 208lbs (with dense bones, so actually you're lighter in muscle) gives you a very low amount of lean mass/bf ratio. You have about 170lbs of lean mass. Get than number up, and get your BF down, then re-post.
