Could i get some thoughts please on why Bill Phillips is hated so much on the boards? I really thought his body for life book was pretty solid, and his (used to be atleast) company EAS has some good products, namely their whey protein and RTD's. So why is it that he is slammed on this board and mindandmuscle.net all the time?

What?
Damn, your funny ( no sarcasm). Every thread I've made recently has had a funny comment from you at some point, and I appreciate it.
But, I really would like to have some idea, any idea. I can't figure out what everyone has against this guy...Signature Starts Here:

i read the boards pretty regularly, and i haven't seen people talking poorly about him. why do you think that's the case? most information i've seen about body-for-life/eas has been positive. granted, i'm a little...okay, maybe a lot biased but i still haven't seen anything like that.

EAS used to be a good company many years ago. every product they had was legit (except for maybe hmb) and I think they were the first to introduce creatine. They called in phosfgan or something like that. Now ever since bill phillips steped down as CEO they went down the drain, offering products that dont do anything such as methoxy.

Most people on this board haven't been at it long enough to remember.
Bill Phillips used to own Muscle Media 2000 which was a groundbreaking magazine for the time. It changed everything. It was the first muscle mag to talk about drugs and tell the truth about pro bodybuilding. He introduced the world to Dan Duchaine. He spoke to the hardcore bodybuilder. He was the first to market creatine. He was an innovator. Then, at the height of it's popularity, Phillips did a 180 and went completely mainstream. He "sold out." Muscle Media turned in a "Men's Health" type magazine. He started touting bogus supplements. He betrayed his audience.
On top of it all, he had a monumental ego. He flaunted his success and people hated him for it. Nevertheless. he is a millionaire many times over -- perhaps a billionaire -- in an industry where only a handful of people made money prior to the internet explosion. And he did it all before the age of 40.

I began reading Bill Phillips' writings in 1990. He published a couple of newsletters before starting Muscle Media 2000 in March 1992. Phillips always had his detractors, but the real flush started when his over-promoted HMB product flopped. Then, in July 1997, Phillips switched his magazine format from hardcore to mainstream. He also began hyping the EAS B-F-L contests. It was all downhill after that. Too slick, I guess. The hardcore crowd said he sold out.
Here's a link to an indepth article about Bill Phillips. I can't believe he's 40 now.

Thanks
I understand now, but I have to admit, he's still my favorite bodybuilder, because he's the one that got me started. I just didn't listen to him...

Some of you guys are talking trash about Bill Phillips, and even calling him greedy, but that's not right.
He never even collected any of the proceeds from the Body-for-Life book; all the proceeds went to the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
When the movie Body of Work came out, he gave the movie away free and each movie had a note asking for $15 to be donated to the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
He's raised millions for charity.
You might say that he profited from the book and movie anyway, since they both increased the sales of EAS products, but like some of you already know, he sold most of the company. He does have some stake in EAS still, but the fact is that Bill Phillips is a great humanitarian.
Aside from the money he's raised for charity, he's helped millions of people change their lives through fitness.
Most of you like Arnold for the contribution he made to the world of bodybuilding, but keep in mind that Bill Phillips has done the same. He brought fitness into the mainstream more than anyone. He showed people that it's not just a freakshow, but a healthy way of living.
It's sad how people are always so much quicker to break people down than build them up.John 14:6 - I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one can come to the Father except through Me.

My very first post, LET ME USE IT WISELY.
I hope you all don't mind. But I'm mad as hell.
This may not be the best way to start a new relationship but here goes.
Bill Phillips and Body-for-Life didn't save my life it just gave me a life to live.
It invoked in me a desire to carry on and move forward. It opened doors for me that I could have never dreamed could have been opened. At a point in my life when my hopes and dreams were fading it gave me hope, and the tools I needed to move forward.
When I was told that I was losing my sight and there was nothing that could be done to stop it. My world crashed. My ability to provide for my family would fade with my sight and there was nothing I could do to stop it.
Bill and BFL changed all that.
When I woke up this morning I could not see as well as I could yesterday and tomorrow I won't see as well as today. But That doesn't matter because I've learned that there is so much more to life than seeing. I owe this to Bill Phillips and BFL.
I am not alone in this. Millions of others have had their lives changed positivelly as a result of BFL.
Consider this the next time you want to bash BP or BFL. Envy can take many shapes and forms but it is always GREEN.
Guess I calmed down a little, you're lucky, there's nothing worse than a blind man in heat. Use your brain or you'll need your feet.LOL
Walk Crawl Run, But Getit DoneCrawl walk run. But getit done.
I could get at least two workouts a week in if I could only find the damn equipment.
Being blind is not the problem. Not being able to see is.
If I must loose my sight. At least grant me the strength and courage to fulfill my dream of becoming a judge at the Miss Universe padgent.

I'm sure Bill Phillips has helped thousands achieve better health and a better body... he's optimistic, successfell & famous, dates hot ladies and is in awesome shape. Of course people dislike him because of this. Just like when we as bodybuilders bust our butts to get in great shape and we then have our haters. It's called jealousy.
I used to follow Bill and muscle media in the day and there was a lot of good material to learn from and he did a pretty good job and many others have tried to follow in his footsteps with body for life etc... Sometimes he seemed a little too cocky or arrogant, but that was usually when I got jealous myself, seeing him making insane cash & having hot babes. It's normal.
At least he seemed to help out others in the process.
I have heard stories that behind the scenes he treated his employees like crap, but who knows if that is really the truth.

When I see all the lame newbie posts on this board I wish they would just pick up Bill's book. It is the perfect beginner book. I read it cover to cover (it's actually pretty short) and I could only find a couple little things I didn't agree with. He puts a LOT of good information in a very neat little package that beginners can understand and actually do. I don't know anything about his politics or history, I have just read his book and I am very impressed.

He basically created the model that T-mag followed. See how well they are thought of by their original reader base.

Lol,
Good to see everyones sense of humour here.
I always thought of Bill as a womanizer... always seeing him parading around with playboy bunnies and the like in the mags.
Maybe he's bi or maybe he's just vey comfortable with his sexuality? Lol.
Nothing wrong with gayness in my opinion, but I'm beginning to like the idea that he is... all that built up jealousy is wearing off pretty quick!!
His book Body for Life and Eating for life are both solid books backed by science though.
He did take quite a beating for the HMB deca thing... as seen here, it's still hauting him to this day. Maybe he got a bad batch of deca in the past? haha.
And Patrick,
I always knew you were all those things and more, but be honest, you're not really in awesome shape are you... lol.
