Ab Look - Genetic or Trainable?
Hi, I had a quick question. As I was watching the movie 300 I noticed that all the actors had the same "ab" look. It was very defined and sort of extended far beyond the stomach. Now is this a genetic look they found while casting, or is this trainable? It looked almost edited to me.
Thoughts, questions, comments?

genetics certainly help some but in order to get a look like that you have to have a real low bodyfat percentage to go along with the training. you can train abs all you want but if there is even the smallest layer of fat over them they will not show through

Well, the abs that they seemed to have weren't like the normal abs I'm use to seeing at that body fat percent~ It seemed as if they "stuck out" more than normal. I was just wondering what was the cause of this.

Hrm, thanks for the information. Would heavy ab workouts/great diet be the only way to get anything resembling that look or what?

hey man
Every scene where their abs would be on display, they dehydrated and cut the weight VERY quickly. They had low water/body fat, and tons of muscle. Your professional bodybuilders don't look as ripped outside of the events as they do once they prepare.
Also, it is a LOT easier to get that look when you have 24 hours a day to work out, and a personal trainer on hand.

looked like computer enhancement to me...no way that many guys had the same looking ab genetics
that beign said, if u want those "heavy" looking abs u probably do need soem weighted moves as opposed tojust bodyweight stuff

The actors of 300 often lifted weights and exercised before filming (like directly before). You can see on the DVD extras that actors would do pushings, dumbbell curls and sit ups and the directly after that they would shoot a scene.
They did this because if you all know, after you lifted weights and work out and you look at yourself in the mirror, your muscles are buldged and stick out more since blood is rushing to them and, obviously, you just worked them.
So the 300 actors probably arent and dont look that ripped while walking around in their everyday lives, they just lift weights inbetween shooting scenes.
(Like I said, this is in the DVD Extras so dont think I am making this up)
