I hate running on a treadmill, but like to lift weights in the gym. Is it possile to lose the weight by just weight lifting? And which would be faster running on a treadmill or lifting weights?

No you can't turn fat into muscle. Fat = Fat and Muscle = Muscle Two completely different cells. Yes, you can lose fat by putting on muscle. I personally can attest to that fact. LIfting weights 3 or 4 times a week and using cardio for 15 -20 minutes after lifting worked the best for me. Read the stickies -Tons of information about this. Results = 75% Diet 25% Exercise 5% Supplements

I believe I've always read you can't turn fat into muscle. You need to burn the fat. If you don't like to run like me, I've shed some weight by adding cardio (walking decent pace for 30 minutes after workout).
I start off with a 10 minute warm up on treadmill, then do my workout, then finish with the 30 cardio/walk. I've added some supps to help boost my metabolism as well (cla, carnitine, green tee, 5htp). They seem to work well as I have dropped the weight. Might not be the supps though and could be the activity on the treadmill, I think it's both.
I've also read it better to workout 5 days a week for shorter period, then just a few days for longer workouts. This keeps your metabolism up as well. This could vary per person but seems effective for me so far this year.

you actually can get rid of muscle cells without liposuction. aside from the fact that liposuction only relates to fat... hence the LIPO part.
one cant be turned into the other, and vice versa. thats like turning bone into mustard. it just doesnt happen. you can lose fat without doing cardio, but it will probably be slower going. if youre diet isnt in check, then you wont lose any fat.Last edited by pologod05; 08-30-2007 at 10:18 AM.

You cannot turn fat into muscle like the above posters said. But you can lose from just weight lifting, although it would be a much slower process. I know cardio is a pain in the ass i have been doing it every day for the past 6 months but you have to pull through just try doing 3 days of 15 minutes of hiit you will lose it faster and the quicker you lose it the quicker you will get off the tredmill and hit just the weights, god that seems so dreamy to me.

This is how I like to train when getting ready for a show, or when I want to trick my body a little. I will start my workout with a heavy compound lift for say 4 set of 6. After that exercise I will go straight into drop sets, tri sets and super sets. I will not take breaks in between my sets any longer than 30 seconds. This will keep your heart rate up and also stimulate your muscles in a way they haven't been in the past. Don't spread the secret though people might start getting intense in the gym, breaking sweats and getting massive pumps!

You lose fat by eating a caloric deficit.
You gain fat by eating a caloric surplus.
You gain muscle by eating a caloric surplus (or if you have a ton of fat you can lose fat and gain muscle at the same time)
You could lift weights and do cardio all day but if you eat more than you use... you will gain weight. (fat and muscle)
