Bodybuilding has a place for both machines and free weight. Power lifting can do without it. If I had to choose, free weights are best. I have been training competatively for 28 years. I am 43 years old. Squat over 600 and deadlift over 700 at 230 lbs. 5'10". I have the kind of mass that most young boys never will have due to their history of training. Machines in a nice club vs. free weights in the back of the shed year round never stopping. Machines have their place. I use both now.
