Some unknown guy gets physical with me at the gym...
I suppose my point of this thread is to ask you misc.....What would you have done???
I was doing shoulders yesterday and started the workout off with upright rows(straight bar)
I get into the working sets and finish my set and place the bar down and walk around to change the weight.
As I am doing this, an unknown man on a neighboring machine(he was a white guy, about 6'2", maybe 185 lbs, could arguably called white trash) comes up to me and says "hey man....that's a lot of weight for that exercise!! You must be built up top!!"
Then, he proceeds to punch my in the upper left pec(not hard, but hard enough)
As I saw him reach up with his right hand..... I bend back Matrix style to avoid impact, twisting my torso and bending my head back...but he still got to me....I was so perplexed by the fact some guy I didn't know just playfully punched me that I froze like a deer in headlights and just avoided him and said "thanks" and then stayed away from this crazy a$$hole....
In hindsight, and had I seen it coming, I probably would have responded with a left hand kidney shot under his right that would have hopefully put him down and out. but...hindsight is 20/20, and I didn't act fast enough.
My questions to you misc.....
What is with this guy?
Is he a drug addict?
drunk?
yes homo?
Is this type of behavior accepted in the hills of Kentucky where he is probably from?
What would you have done?

You don't put your hands on another man unless you're saving him, fighting him, shaking his hand, or you're a homo.
And no, strangers don't touch eachother without consent.

Just being friendly and wanted to introduce himself to you, but just being a little over friendly due to being nervous being at the gym for the first time. He was probably then thinking of saying something funny, introduce himself to you, ask for a little advice on dieting and exercise routine. Unfortunately, you took it as a bit of a threat, avoided the friendly punch, which he ofcouse ment in a playful manner to lighten the mood, thus making the whole situation awkward and leaves him pondering whether he's just humiliated himself infront of the gym and wonders whether you're some big shot at the gym that's going to get all your big guy mates to laugh at him whilst he is trying to do some exercise.

He was trying to come up with a way to grope you without you realizing what a flaming homo he is. The punch method is the one he went with.
Basically he wants to PIIYB.

So you're asking if you should have fought a stranger (possibly on crack) over a friendly punch? I'd probably just laugh at the idiot.

Hmm yeah, that's pretty gay to playfully punch someone you've spoken to for 2 min in the CHEST.
How ever the world is full of retards and you reacted correctly, I mean, if you had made a big deal about it you'd look like a dick.

I really think I would have done something that I would have regretted in that situation. I am really in a fuked up frame of mind when I workout and people just stay away from me for the most part. However if I was punched or grabbed by someone, I think they would get a beating for sure. You did the right thing man.

You shoulda broke his arm in 4 different places before it even reached you.
Seriously though, I think he was just trying to be friendly and it went overboard. If he was a friend or you had known him as a gym buddy for awhile, then it would have been alright.

Give him a nasty look that shows you mean business. That should be enough. Don't go overboard, there are some odd people in the world. Now, if he does it again.....

Thats pretty much what I did......I gave him a "WTF are you doing look" then I looked away and ignored him....
Not to be judgemental as I am trying to stop judging people based on their looks....but he didn't look like someone I would typically befriend anyway...
Also, getting in a confrontation at the gym is never good....i am in good with the manager, so I would have been fine i'm sure, but it wouldn't reflect well with some of the other members...plus there were a couple hotties there.
