Is it possible to gain muscle doing a 6 exercise full body workout twice a week or is that really just maintenence?

I don't think I'm advanced, only been working out for a year now. First 6 months were a 4 day split where I gained most of my weight. Last 6 months was the full body twice a week. Would it just be more beneficial to do pushups/situps/chinups every other day until I can workout 3 times a week?
