signs of muscle growth are indeed muscle growth (looks bigger than last month, odds are it is, or take measurements and record em). another tell tale sign is that your lifts are improving consistently, an important reason to keep a training log.
Muscles rebuild larger and more powerful. If you can lift at a higher weight then the last time you worked out, then you have experienced muscle growth. Soreness can be an indicator but is not always the case.
