The China Study

I have just read this book by Dr. Colin Campbell called "The China Study". http://www.amazon.com/China-Study-Co...8161659&sr=8-1

It has extremely alarming things to say about the consumption of animal protein, especially casein from dairy sources (yet another reason why I don't eat dairy...). The health implications of consuming an animal-based diet are so horrifying that it is honestly making me consider becomming a vegan. ME - a hardcore weight trainer, BBer, and competitor who lives for chicken, steak, and eggs. It is at the very least making me reevaluate my high protein intake.

The book quotes numerous scientifc studies and seems credible to a non-scientist like me. I have seen people critique various studies on here before and so my question goes out to the educated nutritionsts among us. Has anybody read this book and what critiques can you offer if you have?

Thanks!

Sounds like the doctor may not have all his ducks in a row.

Thanks for the link Terra.

In the book, the doctor acknowledges that he has been austricized by most conventional scientists because of his views and also goes on to discuss how the meat and dairy industries have massive marketing and PR machines in place to protect their interests. Some parts of the book I found overarching and dramatic, while others seemed very plausible and based in good science. But what do I know?

It's difficult not to be swayed one way or the other by a pursuasive writer. Two people can take the exact same "facts" and each spin them to lead the reader to an entirely different conclusion. I just never know what to believe!

If nothing else, the book made me reevaluate what qualifies as a "protein" and expand my nutritional horizons to include more plant-based foods in my diet.
