Question Height and Weight for DT

Well i am a DT. My Height is 5'10 and My Weight is 230lbs as a Sophomore. Do you now your height and weight matter in DT position. MY bench and squat are down on my sig. so you can check if i should get better and also i am running a terrible 5.7sec 40 yard dash. But i do a lot of running and jump ropping and ply's and agility and stuff like that i might have to get my chin bones checket because they also heart when i was running that 40 so hopfully it will go down to a 5.5sec. and my last question is what is a good 40 dash time for a DT.
Hello you guys i love to play football and i like to lift weight. Next season i am going for DT in Tomah High School.

your height and weight are fine for a DT as long as you are TOUGH with your pads on. and id say a good/decent time for a DT is around 5.2.

a good strenght would be benching at least 275, squatting 400 and cleaning 250.

but you could get away with a 250bench, 350 squat, and a 225 clean if youre tuff/.

for D end id say around the same strength as a DT. but if u wanted to be an effective pass rusher then youd have to run between 4.8 and 5.1.

Remember doing alot of stuff isn't the best way to get faster just the best way to fatigue your body the way to get faster is to sprint with full recovery between reps.

You're a decent size for DT in high school. Although up here in North Dakota, you rarely see a good DT under 275-280.

I'm not a big believer in lifting and running stats. Personally, I'm about 1000% better on the field than in the weight room. I have great "brute" strength.
I've been timed in the 40 on test day anywhere from 5.5-6.0. It's funny though, when we were watching film one day I had chased down a RB for about 50 yards. The coaches thought it was funny so they timed my 40. 4.7...

Don't worry about how big you are. I was 180 in high school at DT and I won some awards. Here in New York we don't give a **** if you are 275-280. We rarely don't care if you are fat 275-280 DT. You are good if you can play.

I just love the maturity on this board. It's almost... non-existent.

I never said you had to be 275+ to be a good DT. I said that up here, there isn't many good DTs that are smaller than that. I also never mentioned the level of ND's football. Never said it was bad or good.

But this isn't the first time this TOF kid has been acting like a fairy. I have come to expect no less from you.

Plus the RB has to decelerate to make cuts and find open space. That or he could've just taken a good angle on the guy. It's not unheard of though, I once chased a 4.5 guy down on a sweep play that busted for 60 yards from the other side of the field and then got him from behind again on a long kickoff return.

If you want to intelligently call me out, I don't have a problem with it. It's when you act like a small child that I start to have a problem.

And yes, the RB was making cuts and such. Although I actaully have straight-up run down players before, I woundn't have had a chance to do that against this kid.

We did the same thing (timing during a play) with a RB that ran about 60 yards after breaking a tackle and he was timed at almost a 4.05-4.15 in the last 40 yards.

Those are known as "flying 40's" but timing them from a video isn't 100% accurate due to variances in the tape speed setting during recording and during play by the VCR.

To see an example of how film speed can effect sense of speed and quickness watch Under Siege 2, there's a part where they director had the film speed amped up to make it look like Steven Seagal moves at nearly the speed of sound and stabs some guy but if you watch the background it speeds by a lot faster than normal.

AJFORTWENGLER your posts are starting to get ridiculous with your posts about timed forties while watching game tape. And also because TOF44 did not directly call you out you say that he is not being intelligent. On the contrary i think he is being intelligent by indirectly calling you out.

A few posters call BS. I was only adding to the fact that it isn't. And to call me out on something he obviously doesn't understand isn't intelligent.

It isn't that hard to believe. I believe that is was Ben Johnson (?) that ran around a 3.5 flying 40. Ask him to run a 40 under NFL combine conditions and he wouldn't even come close.

I understand that timing tape isn't the best. I was just trying to illustrate that you are usually "faster and stronger" on the field compared to testing. Because of that, I take test results with a grain of salt.

Benching 500 pounds doesn't mean crap if you can't transfer that to the field and make that strength functional. There is plenty of people in the world that are abnormally strong, yet would suck it up on the football field. Just like there are weaker players that turn out to be great.

Not true if you are a beast in the weight room using perfect form, you will transfer to the field. I mean beast as a 400 bench, 550 squat, and 250 hang clean. That is what college coaches look at more to tell you the truth. I was no star in hs by any means but I was a beast with the weights. In college I played at D-1 level because of my coaching. Now that I injured myself I can only transfer to D-2. I hate it when people say it doesn't transfer. It does transfer if you play physical positions. Obviously if it is some DB who is clumbsy as hell, but can lift a lot, a good coach would move him to DE, DT, or FB. It isn't that you stength doesn't transfer it is you are playing the wrong position, like myself. I am a TE and DE naturally, but i was playing LB which was the wrong postion, so I switched myself and it made a huge differnce. I am now 6-4 and 240 pounds playing TE.

I don't know...I've seen lots of guys who "look like Tarzan, play like Jane", but I agree with the general gist of your post.

There are exceptions, but, by and large, a player who is weightroom strong will be more productive than a similar player who is not.

Im 6'2" and 280 and i play DT. Technique will help alot. Just like others have said, you dont have to be the fastest or the strongest if your technically sound.
