How many push ups is too much in a day?

Ive decided to let my body recover from weight liftring for a while and today i did 260 push ups in sets of 20, I'll tell you guys what I know there not really a muscle builder but it was different and I sweated ,and felt very pumped, it felt very good, when Iwas about 60 lbs lighter I used to be able to knock down 50 in a set very easily and would like to get back to that.

So the question is, is how many push ups in a day is too much

Personally I hate pushups. I've done far to many in my career as punishment for other people's ****ups. But I've seen many people do hundreds daily for extended periods with no ill effects.

"I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. In the morning if my face is a little puffy I'll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do 1000 now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion."

A great deal of overkill, IMO, if you are not balancing the pushups out with a pulling movement like supine rows. 1,820 pushups per week vs. 0 supine rows per week...doesn't that seem like an imbalanced program? Imagine the imbalanced numbers after a few months.

    x2

Overkill via quantity is relevant to the individual. For some people 200 push ups would **** them up for a week.
As Papi said you don't have to worry about how many push ups you're doing as long as you're not injuring yourself, and as long as you're doing a variety of exercises.

Instead of using numbers, look at your upper body development. If you're slouching due to overdeveloped chest and not enough back, you should ease up and balance that out.

1,001. 1000 is fine but do 1000 +1 and the bodies internal organs will completely shut down and you will go into a coma on the floor. Not fun my friends.

    x2

Chins and or pullups should help there. I like to superset them with dips, so I seldom do pushups.

Unless it is obvious to anyone who isn't blind that you lift weights, you might still benefit from a little more attention to big basic barbell exercises for enough reps:).

I do 3x25 diamond-pushups, 1x25 tricep pushups, and 1xAs many as I can wide spread pushups. It gave me great results.

Bodybuilding is 60% training and 50% diet. Yes that adds up to 110%, because that's what you should be giving it. Change the inside, and the physique will follow.

So what happens if you've done 1000, and then accidently get knocked to the floor onto your stomach? Can you not push yourself back up? Must you remain lying there until help arrives?
