I posted these on another forum but I rather get input from "older" individuals. I can never make the gains that a 18 or 20 year old can...so the 1st picture is me at 34 and the 2nd one is me at 38. Progress is slow but I keep at it. I never lifted a weight until 5 1/2 years ago.
My weight has always been an issue. I need to drop about 20-30 lbs.
I am now open for comments.....

If you don't stand up, you don't stand a chance...
Need to see more poses to say anything for certain, but it seems like maybe you could stand to work on lats and traps. Not that they're lagging by much if at all. Legs I can't tell. Yeah, you might wanna drop some weight, but you're not looking bad at all.
I would like to get my weight around 180. I am currently 211. I have always heard that it is impossible to gain muscle mass while losing weight...true or not? I was always fat growing up, so I have a weird mental picture of myself. I always see the fat kid in myself.
I take a multi-vitamin, a calcium/mag/zin suppliment, drink protein shakes (low carb/fat), and take some andro (just for the hell of it)
Any suggestions will be welcome.

as far as losing muscle while dieting (losing weight) it all depends on a couple of things (1)genetics (2) your "diet" in general (3) your workout routine
.....what andro are you taking?
.....whats your routine?
...throw some flaxoil and liver tabs in with the mix of sups
.....btw looks like your in good shape and making progress

I am currently taking "extreme Lab" Norandrobolic extreme 1500" and Pro Lean Mass also by extreme lab. I figured that these were as good as any.
Routine:
chest 2x's a week
shoulders 2x's a week
arms 1x
I always do at least 20 minutes of cardio. I would like to get my chest bigger. I try to stay away from natilus machines but maybe I'll incorporate some. I use free weights for the most part and the smith machine.

GB, I really don't understand your routine, you don't have back and legs "inc" into your workout in order for your body to kick into an anabolic state you should work ALL of your muscles, I'm not by any chance a pro, this is just my opinion ...I suggest(bent over rows) (squats) ...you should seriously consider incorperating these exercises into your routine ......
...I do andros myself, that norandrobolic extreme 1500 sounds interesting,I'm going to check it out
....I realize your trying to cut your weight down, but don't deprive your body of calories to obtain mass, as long as your working out it won't turn into b/f%
You've got good size on your shoulders and arms, well done. I'm the same age but only started serious BBing a few months ago so have some way to go to achive your gains. However, I have approached things from "I want to be sure I can lose the bf before I risk bulking".
For my 2 cents worth, go for squats, and really push yourself. I have dropped about 18lbs without I believe losing any lean mass and having gained some. My legs were always skinny so I decided to bite the bullet and go for full squats and not use machines.
In my view this has made a big difference, as it seems to really set my metabolism into overdrive. Standing with a heavy weight on your shoulders puts strain on your whole system, and its is said encourages growth in not just legs but other muscle groups as well.
Squats are as much mental as physical, grow to love them. I now love, hate, hate love squats.
When I work out at my girlfriend's gym she will push me to do legs and back. I guess that I can devote a day to them. As for squats, I have a bad back so I try to avoid that. I will give it a try..especially if you think it will bump up my metabolism...ye-hah
If you don't stand up, you don't stand a chance...
I too have/had a bad lower back. I have found squats have helped, as they have strengthed the lower back muscles. Obviously, care is needed and maybe pre-exhaust your legs first to reduce the weight you use, but I have had no problems at all.
Also, don't use a belt. It was due to using a belt when Olympic style lifting in my school days that caused my injury. Strenghten your back by gradually building up the weight, and also work your abs as well.
Some good advice here, I will second doing legs and back. Take it from me, someone who tried doing them on one day, seperate them! Give legs a day and do back another. Got to go, I'll add to this later.

I know that I have packed on muscle since this picture was taken.
yeah, you can definitly tell tou've made progress from that pic ..good work GB
...Hey I did a search on extremelab and norandrobolic extreme1500, and came up with nothing, can you post a link or list the ingrediants? thanks........
Hey good pics! I also think you need to decide what you want to do, set a goal, lean or bulk. I guess I don't see your weight issue??? If it were me I would start doing compound exercises(deads, squats, bench. and beef up even more, go on a bulk. You already have good size. Keep your diet clean, no junk, sugar, ect.. OR go on a cut and work on getting that bf down. Trying to do both is very hard.
I really do want to get bigger first but I at least have to keep my weight constant. I have to ability to put on fat fast if I don't keep my diet relatively clean. I never think that I can get my body looking lean and cut after so many years of being quite fat.
If you don't stand up, you don't stand a chance...
GB, I fully understand your worry about not being able to lose the fat following bulking. However, I really cannot agree with your thinking that just because you've spent years being fat, this has an impact on the coming years. Get rid of these thoughts now!!!
Sorry if this sounds strong, but such negative thoughts will give negative results.
You can do it. Think positive, thats half the battle.
After I lost all my extra weight (about 5 or 6 years ago and about 70-80 lbs) I had alot of extra skin around my mid-section. I had to have it surgically removed. I now have a flatter stomach (and a 23 inch scar to prove it) .....my point is... I understand your philosophy but I feel that I am being realistic....not negative.
If you don't stand up, you don't stand a chance...
GettingBigger, first of all if you lost that much weight you should have called yourself gettingsmaller, Ha ha, just joking
You obviously have a handle on your diet, so what are you afraid of?? We don't suggest to pig out on a bulk, just up your cals a little. Invest is a cheap set of calipers and a good mirror. If you see too much fat coming on, adjust your diet, but it's your choice, just set your goal and go for it! Oh and most of all, enjoy it
More muscle burns more fat!! Your legs and back are prime areas to build mass--blowing them off is holding you back. I think you would definitely benefit from a more well rounded routine that includes ALL the major lifts---bench press, military, bent over rows, chin ups, standard deadlifts, stiff legged deadlifts, squats. Just my .02
Hey man you have added some good mass there over the time you have spent bbing. I think what you need to do is make a decision one way or another and stick to it and make it your focus. You can see from my transformation thread I decided to compete - focused on gettin ripped and holding on to as much muscle as possible and I achieved my goals with the right determination. Just get the attitude right and you can do it too bro!
Good Luck

My first goal is to get my weight to 190 (currently 208). I am keeping my protein intake about 200 grams a day but I have limited my carbs and fat for the last 2 weeks and I lost 5 lbs. I figure if I lose the weight slow then I can still build up muscle.
You know sometimes when you feel like you really don't know what you are doing anymore (dieting, lifting, etc)...I'm in one of those times.
If you don't stand up, you don't stand a chance...
SQUATS does the magic. If you don’t do squats you are losing time and space at the gym also don’t do the same muscle group more than once per week. Most people think when you do heavy squat, only your legs get the benefit. Wrong squats develops strength of you entire body. And don’t take this lightly.

I know exactly what you mean! Stick to your original goal, it feels good to get there even if you do lose a little mass. Watch cutting your carbs too low also.
Adding quality muscle while attempting to cut fat is extremely difficult, but not impossible. I would suggest bulking further.Focus on adding mass, after you've attained your desired size, focus on bf reduction-You will produce greater results that way by placing emphasis on a specific goal at a time.
