Benching in the rack
My rack should be here this week...question for you guys...where do you set the spotter bars when you flat bench press? Just above your chest, or do you set them low enough so you can still touch your chest?
If it's the latter, how does it work when you can[t get your lift and have to drop it on the rack?

my answer is in between. if I'm just resting on the bench it's above my chest but my chest comes up when I have weight on so I can still touch my chest with the bar. and if I fail i just have to relax and let the spotter bars take over(and then wiggle out )

i go one lower than this because i get annoyed if i come down to hard and hear the bar hit the spotters. If i get stuck, i j/ roll it down toward my stomach and the spotters grab it.
Beochie's way is probably better if your lifting a significant weight though (yes weak)

i agree. i have mine like that. if anything happens just push the bar over my stomach area and teh spotters will stop it. with weight on the bar my chest seems to rise over the spotters.

Using a Powertec rack for benching I have the safety pins in the #5 holes from the bottom. It's perfect for me; higher than my face and lower than my chest, so the bar never touches the pins. It's too high for my brother but we don't usually train together. The lower #4 position he would use is higher than my neck but not high enough if it ever needed to protect my face.
