How do you resist temptation?
Last Saturday I decided to treat myself to a cheat item. I ordered a small oreo blizzard with extra oreos. The guy who fixed this for me did a damn good job. He put a lot of oreos in my blizzard (just the way I like it). It was so good that I wanted another but I couldn't make it out to Dairy Queen again due to being stuck at the airport waiting on a friend.
That was last Saturday and everyday since then I've wanted to drive out to Dairy Queen and get another oreo blizzard with extra oreos. But this time I want a LARGE! To hell with getting a small one.
So far I'm staying disciplined but I don't know how long I can resist this feeling. I'm afraid if I get another one I'll buy one everyday because it's just that good.
Can anyone give a good method of resisting this urge?
How do you deny the "pleasure cravings" in your body?
Any and all advice are welcomed and appreciated.

You are posting here so I am assuming you workout? If you workout I also assume you have goals? Does an oreo blizzard help you reach your goals?
Didn't think so!

I believe that the traditional response from a man is: "A cold shower".

hmm... resisting temptation. That's a tough one and some excellent responses have been made In my experience you always have to continue to evaluate your goals. Do you want those six pack abs? Do you want to lower your chances of degenerative disease? Do you want to increase the chance that you'll give into your cravings again and likely soon after you cheat once? The truth is, food like that stimulates the brains dopamine feedback system and brings a feeling of pleasure. This is an addiction so it's no surprise how difficult it is to fight the urge. You HAVE to always keep your goals in mind. Other than that, my advice --- Buy a gallon of Edy's Slow Churned Vanilla ice cream. It has 5 grams of fat per serving and is sugar free. Find the lowest fat free sugar free chocolate cookies you can find and go for it -- Just kidding But you could if you think it wouldn't want to make you to go out and get the real thing. Once you're away from this kind of non-clean junk for some time you'll miss it. Someone asked me if I wanted to go to DQ last week. The actual thought of it made me sick to my stomach. Sounds very strange but true. Stick to your goals and resist will all your might -- work hard -- and you will be rewarded with something better than a DQ blizzard.

I have everyone around me trained. I don't even get offered junk food
or birthday cake or asked if I want anything from McDonalds anymore.
My pregnant wife lovingly calls me the food Nazi.
I had a Baconator last week at work. One of them took a picture.
(Hey it was a cheat meal)

Now I'm not so sure about that. Have you ever had a Pumpkin Pie Blizzard?
The constant hunger gnawing away at me sometimes talks a bit louder than my will to reach my goals, especially when my goals seem so far away. But that's neither here nor there, I suppose.

"I ordered a small oreo blizzard with extra oreos."
As I understand it the filling in Oreos is Crisco and sugar, thats just nasty to think about, I try to think about what I'm eating. I just read an article about how people going to fast food restaurants who look at the nutrition fact sheet (that you can get if you ask) always chose way lower fat options than those who just order.
"I have everyone around me trained. I don't even get offered junk food
or birthday cake or asked if I want anything from McDonalds anymore.
My pregnant wife lovingly calls me the food Nazi."
Same here. My workplace is infamous for Ice Cream Cakes, Donuts, Cookies and all kinds of garbage, on my last Birthday they brought in fresh fruit and a veggie tray.

When your tempted go brush your teeth for about 20 minutes and then gargle with some strong mouth wash. It can lower the urge for sweets most of the time.

20 minutes? You'll no longer have teeth to eat the sweets, having worn them down to nubs.

Try this - it works for me sometimes when I really want to eat something bad. Tell yourself "This isn't the last time I will get to eat "x". I'll just pass it up this time."
I also work on the theory that if I'm going to eat bad stuff, I want it to be something worthwhile. i.e. I'm not going to blow it for a crappy treat - it has to be something good!

I do believe there is some sexual inuendo in there somewhere. I'll let you know when I find it.
FYI, I have been working on a tub of chocolate chip cookie dough the last couple days myself. i wish the kids would hurry up and either bake it or eat it before I polish it off.

That's close to what I do (not that I'm such a fine example or anything), but I'll mumble to myself, "Maybe next time." or "Meh, but I want to have a steak tonight, so that's out!"

It would also take care my taste buds. Brushing my teeth 20 minutes several times a day would kill my need to taste any type of food!

Just another thought......go ahead and get that Blizzard, get a large. Want another one later or tomorrow, get it, make it a large. Next day...do it. Sooner or later you'll get rid of the craving. It might be when you lose the taste for it, maybe when you see the scale moving up, maybe when you decide that damn, I've worked too hard to get here and I'm not going to piss it away. Sometimes you just need to indulge yourself and after you do, it isn't such a big deal to have it anymore. It looks as though you are much too dedicated to let it get out of control and the pain of that extra cardio will just reinforce why you DON'T need it again anytime soon
After a couple of years of very limited drinking, I just spent three days in Downtown Chicago drinking heavily, eating greasy pizza and wings, and having one hell of a good time. Back home and I'm five pounds heavier and looking at my gut that I've spent too much time working away. I had a great time but I don't want to do it again anytime soon!
