So I signed up at LA Fitness b/c it was the cheapest I could get for the amount of access I could get (all gyms etc etc). However, I like having a personal trainer and their... well... cheapness for personal training kinda made me iffy.
For starters Ive been working out at 24 hour. Its one of the smaller 24 hours and they have a seperate floor for free-weights and machine/cardio stuff so they are pretty lenient about dropping weights and grunting (which is nice b/c it never bothers me really). Anywho... I spent about $600 for 12.5 hours of personal training and I am quite happy with the results and my trainer. He knows his ****, where Im at, when to push me a little bit extra, and when to tell me my forms sucks and I need to lower the weight. Good guy.
However, fast forward to LA Fitness one training session is like $35, and supposedly you just "ask" for a guy when you come in... which seems weird from being w/ the same trainer every single time at 24 hour.
Anyone have a good review of them? I dunno, just makes me think that if the trainers are working for that little that they prolly arent that good. At least compared to the 24 hour where they have all their resumes up on a wall. Just kinda sketched out I guess.

Personal Training at LA Fitness?

I thought LA Fitness' trainers were a lot more experienced and better, considering they all LOOK better than the people at 24 Hour, who seem to not be bodybuilders themselves but merely took some classes and passed a test. Personally, I'd feel more comfortable with someone who's got first hand experience. Which LA Fitness do you go to by the way?

I havent really tried it yet (going tonight), but the facilities there are much much nicer than the ones at the 24 hour. Didnt take me long to decide ive been going to the wrong gym in that regard lol.
The guys at the 24 hour tho looked a lot more impressive than the guys at the LA fitness tho for me. That said, its hard to base a lot of things on looks alone, but just seeing if there was any kind of a general consensus.

i would be wary of LA fitness trainers. LA fitness as a corporation outsources their trainers from another company and those trainers get paid dick...i think $6 for a half hour session.
no 'good' trainer is going to work there...and if one does somehow end up there, they wont be staying there for long.$157 billion creates 650,000 jobs = $240,000 cost to create or save 1 job

you can buy training videos for far less, and having plenty left over to buy food. $600 for 12.5hours, i'm in the wrong business.

lol ok. Well Im actually quite happy and feel its been money well spent
Grip strength has gone from 40lbs in each hand to over 100lbs
Squat has gone from BW to 245 lbs
RDL has gone from bar to 215 lbs
Bicep curl has gone from 20 to 40lbs (one arm) ditto for tricep (id say my arms had the least impressive growth)
Bench has gone from ~70lbs to ~190lbs
Those numbers aren't good, but Im quite pleased with the improvement in 2.5months. Anywho..... after seeing the trainer from LA Fitness who could've cared about anything aside from the person who the trainer was working with, Im very very happy to have access to the quality training I'm getting.Last edited by thatolchestnut; 08-21-2007 at 09:36 PM.

i had a personal trainer at my la fitness tell me setting the weight down during a deadlift was wrong and would result in me slipping a disc in my back when i try to pull it from the ground each rep. He then proceeded to tell me the proper way is to go down to a little below knee caps and lift again.
I'm sure they're not all morons........just 99% of them
