Over 35 biggest Loser Contest
Howdy Everyone
It is time for a new Bodybuilding forum contest, this time it is for weight loss. Some folks on the boards (myself included) have found ourselves needing to drop the lbs after 1. Training set backs, 2. Falling off the training wagon, 3. Not training properly, 4. Girl Scouts jumped them and made them eat cookies. Whatever the reason please join our biggest loser group.
The rules have to be a bit flexible to allow everyone who wants to join in a chance at winning. So here they are thus far and they might change as we here on the boards see fit. If I need to add something please pipe in and tell me .
Rule 1. Contest begins this Friday (August 24th) and runs until Dec 23rd. Post your progress every Friday, and if you have a bodyspace account please post there as well so we can see your progress.
Rule 2. There will be multiple ways to win and many prizes handed out. Not everyone has to lose 20lbs (God knows I do but not everyone), so some of the goals will be more short term to accomadate folks cutting the last 5 or so pounds for up coming contests.
Rule 3. Friendly trash talk only (ok that was a given on this forum but I thought I would post it anyway)
Rule 4. Side bets are encouraged, and the more public the better.
Rule 5. This is of course on the honor system, enough said.
OK now for some of the prize categories
Category One: Most weight loss from August 24th to Dec 23rd.
Category two: First to drop 5lbs
Category three: First to drop 10lbs
Category four: First to drop 15lbs
Category five: First to meet their personal goal ( that goal can be a few lbs for a contest, or 25lbs to fit into a tux) make sure you post what your goal is on friday when you do your first official weigh in, and when you reach it yell out!!! (kinda like Bingo)
Category six: Most weight lost over your body percentage over the course of the contest (submit your first weigh in and last to chocolategirl.
Category seven: Body fat % lost. This is by your own measurements and should be posted every week along with your weight. If you are unsure how to caculate your bf% ask chocolategirl or someone who is in the know. I myself have bf caliper and I choose not to use them this time around (to depressing )
As for the prizes themselves I was going to try talking chocolategirl into cooking them dinner, or having dbx go over their house and clean up the yard, but then I realized that either one of those prizes might make some people so desperate to win that bad eating habits and unsafe dieting would very likely occur, so prizes are to be determined later (yes that might mean a very public pat on the back and nothing more)

Lol.
Am I the only...... ahem......older guy who wants to gain a ton of weight? I'm shooting for 260 solid 'fore my 60th birthday.
I should be so lucky to have a bunch of girls force feed me. That'd bring up the test......which would make me leaner!

Jack, have you considered making the goals a percentage of current weight rather than an absolute number? That would place everyone on a more even playing field, since the more overweight you are, the faster and easier weight loss will be (5 pounds on a 250-pound body is nothing compared to 5 pounds on a 140-pound body for instance).
Just a thought.
And I'd offer to make truffles for the winnrers but that seems somehow counter-productive!

I have considered that and I am very willing to change to that system, but the math seems very difficult for some folks to pull off (I know I will need a caculator and Steven hawkins to get it right) Perhaps a sixth category for biggest % loss would work best.

In the last 12 months (or so) I've lost 4" from my waist, but haven't lost a pound - so I guess I cannot enter this contest.

Inches lost and BF lost are probably more categories. After all, as bb'ers, we want to lose fat, not muscle, right?

No, your not alone...I'm trying to bulk up for the winter! Sometime I think gaining is harder than losing.

Gawd! I wish that were my case - I just have to look at a cheeseburger to gain weight.

My goal matches the contest completion date. I'm in. Last I checked I was at 204 pounds, my goal weight is 185. WTH, eh?
Scratch that, I'm not over 35 yet.

I'd like to lose 10 pounds of fat by December.
Are we going to do this just based on weight or should we also post BF%?

Count me in.
I agree with those that suggested a body fat%. Measuring strictly pounds can be counterproductive if not done right.
Are we able to take pics/measurements today and use them? I had this planned anyway.
Let the Games Begin!! (well this friday) =)

You heard the lady I have no problem moving to a percentage format, especially if I don't have to do the math. I will pm choclategirl to see how she wants to do it, all categories will chance slightly to reflect this (ie first to lose 2% body fat first to lose 5% and so on). Good luck everyone, and if we want to make a bulking category I am all for that also.
